yeah, what I did afterward was using the longer bolt with a slim washer instead of the thick one, and put some red locktite. I torqued it to 35lbs/ft instead of the 48-61lbs/ft the fsm say. That should be enough. It only stripped out the 5 first coils, there's about 10 more coils in the hole... I'll...

Important thing to know when swapping S13/S14 head
So short story, I'm just finishing rebuilding my KA24DE. I had a S13 head on it before, but I installed a S14 head that was ported/matched on it. When installing the idler gear, make sure you use the bolt that came with the head. The idler gear bolt is NOT interchangable between both head. The S13 o...

knocklites are now discontinued, there is another equivalent with fancy leds, but i found it too expensive. (don't remember the exact name at the moment) The other option for knock that I know is this: http://www.viatrack.ca/ you can wire a led that will tell you when there is knock... and it's unde...

You could save a lot of money on a gun for hunting and go out with a plastic knife from burger king.... Get a clue. You could throw a million parts in your engine bay and they won't run without a brain. This isn't a 1960s car with a carbourator. EFI is a big deal and all of the benefits we see from...

I can't agree more with megasquirt being optimal, but the thing is I already have a lot going on for the car already and I would like to have more seat time next summer rather than spending my time in the garage fixing/tuning it...the more I think about it, the more I believe that I should wait unti...

Modifying a water injection controller for N/A car
So I got a good deal on a used AEM 3Bar water injection kit with the flow gauges. With my high compression build and the limited octane in the fuel of my are (91), I decided to get it. Now I need to find a way to get the controller to work without the boost signal. Their controller have a build in 3...

I thought I will update this a little bit. I scored a AEM water meth kit with the flow gauge for very cheap. Only thing is the controller have a built-in 3 bar MAP sensor... well this suck because I am not boosted. Now I was thinking about a diy MS1 V3.0 megasquirt kit ( I know.. I'm far from the or...

mmh.. your last statements make me wanna buy a knocklite. As far as a tunable ecu, it's really not in my plans.. it's not that I am afraid of playing with a tunable ecu, but I wanna keep the cost LOW. I went to a local machine shop that does nothing but engine head (mostly domestic V8 drag machine.....

thanks for the input. As for the cams, I have one 248, one 240 and two 232s. I'm drilling my spare cam gears soon to make them adjustable. Now I'm mostly hesitating between a stock S13 cams setup (240/248) or a hot cam swap (248/232). As far as engine control, I got a sweet deal on the safc neo, and...

Tricks to keep an engine from pinging (predetonation)
So for those who are less familiar with pinging, this is when the fuel burn without control, meaning it does not need the spark to ignite. This ignition is caused by two factors: high heat and high pressure in the combustion chamber. I'm building a KA24DE with a 11:6 compression ratio this winter. I...

If that doesn't work, I got my tach signal on the S12 working from the - discharge signal that goes to the coil on a S14 ka24de. From memory it is a lime green/black wire, http://jimwolftechnology.com/wolfpdf/DISTRIBUTOR%20SR%20KA%20CONV%20INT%20TRANSISTER%20WIRE%20FOR%20MSD.PDF it's the wire #8 on ...

Cool stuff, I'll follow this thread closely as I am debating if I should rebuild my KA with sohc pistons since I'm rebuilding it. My setup will be pretty similar to yours. S14 intake 248(+2.5)/232 cams Ported and matched head no emission, no cat 2.5'' exhaust, 4-1 header fujita intake afc neo with a...

ha well **** this, I got a good deal on a used Safc NEO, it's on it way. I'll still wait to see what the afr looks like and will just resell it if I don't feel like using it. I'll keep this thread updated once I have the engine back together. I think that will be interesting to see how the engine st...

SAFC benefic? slightly modified N/A
So I'm refreshing the engine this winter. Here is the parts I have gathered for it: Engine and sensors are from a 1995 OBDII 248/232 cams combo ported head with matched port on intake fujita intake S13 intake no egr no catalyser I have a AEM uego sensor/gauge, would it be a better idea to wait and s...

So whenever I see those aftermarket R200 LSD unit for sale they specifiy either they are made to fit the VLSD or the OPEN differential. Now there is someone selling a used NISMO clutch differential but he don't know weither it is for a VLSD or a OPEN differential pumpkin. How can he Identify it? I'v...

Thanks, so it's somewhere between a mechanical distributor and a distributorless ignition. Distributor is there but the ECU trigger the coil discharge signal (I'm dumb that's the signal I used to get my tach working :P) So update on the tests on the no start issue. I didn't check the voltage directl...

Summer is ending, time to rebuild and fix rich issue
So since I'm judging my car is not fit for the track for the rest of the season (burning oil, transmission noices and running pig rich) I figured out I'll start by pulling the codes and try to get the car running stoich before changing the old engine and transmission with a freshly rebuilt one. I ha...

Loud whine from car when lapping
So I went lapping this weekend and they told me the car was sometimes making a huge whine, whislting sound. Sounded like something between a huge boost leak or a supercharger whine.. but I'm still N/A. It happen about 3-4 times in a 30min lapping session, most often in 4th gear but sometimes in 3rd ...
