Re: 280z KA Starting Problem

Thanks for the reply. The starting problem actually turned out to be a somewhat clogged fuel line - I flushed the lines and now it starts, but it'll either rev up to about 3.5k and then die or just bog for a few seconds and then cut off. My playing with the throttle seems to have little to no effect...

Re: 280z KA Starting Problem

Sometimes it'll start for a second or two if I play with the throttle while trying to start it. Does that make any difference in terms of the pick up module?

I'll see if I have a spare coil and distributor laying around either way

280z KA Starting Problem

Dropped a KA into a 280z a few years ago and haven't been able to touch it for a few years. I never got all the kinks worked out with it and it will not start. Fuel: I pulled the fuel rail and it spits fuel when trying to start. Spark: It gets spark at the wires and I put in a new set of plugs. Timi...

The ground next to the injectors is good. That was one of the first things I checked.

And I'm not using a 240sx body harness. Are you saying that the 280z body harness has a start signal that ties into the ECU?

I checked the connections at the injectors today and they look fine. Unfortunately, I only have one set of stock injectors. I may try cleaning them this weekend to see if it makes any difference, but the car idles and revs fine once it starts so I don't see how it could be that.

Any other ideas?

Yup, stock KA ECU at the moment and the fuel pump primes as it should.

I don't have an online oil pressure switch.

I know there is cold start enrichment programmed into the ECU, so does that mean there is no specific wiring for it?

The reason I don't think it's anything major is because it idles and revs fine once I get it started. Fuel pump has been replaced with a walbro, filter with a z32 filter and the lines in the engine bay are all new. The mounts were fabbed. I'll post pics once she's actually up and running. :D Is ther...

I will definitely look into that when I get home, but it seems to run fine on its own after I get it to start with starter fluid. I'm sure it's going to be something simple like that.

Any other ideas?

280z KA Starting Problem

Dropped a KA into a '78 280z, wired it up, and now it cranks, but only starts with starter fluid. After it starts with starter fluid, it idles fine. It gets spark, but no fuel. The fuel gets to the rail, but none through the injectors (I pulled the rail and nothing comes out when cranking). I though...

I actually remembered that I tightened the idle air screw all the way in to test something before putting the car away for the winter, and I never backed it back out, so I just backed the screw back out and it was fine. It was idling at 750rpm in limp mode as opposed to the usual ~3k, so raising the...

Yeah, stock idle control. I don't think the maf would effect the car starting. I'm more concerned with the starting problem than the maf problem. I think that's a separate issue

It's a new pump, so I don't think it's that. And it used to idle at 1k when I'd start it, so I figured the fuel delivery was fine. The maf problem is new.

FIXED: Car only starts with starter fluid, then runs

So I threw a KA in a 280z and I'm pretty sure everything is wired up properly. The problem is that it doesn't start up unless I use starter fluid. Sometimes it will start up by itself if I turn the motor over for like 30 seconds or so. Another problem that may be related is that once the car starts,...

Apparently I forgot the ground by the TB. Hooked up a ground there and it started up (albeit very rough, but it started nonetheless).

THANKS! 8)

Calum RT board HELP

I bought a Calum RT board and when I got it, there was no USB cable or a USB connector, so naturally I took it apart. I have a few questions regarding the pictures that will follow: 1.) What are the batteries doing? 2.) I'm assuming the 4-pin connection on the bottom is for the USB? 3.) Can anyone w...

"1 bar to psi" would work much better (for future reference)

My bad, I definitely skimmed over that first post too quickly.

If I remember correctly, I was running more timing with more boost. Did you keep the timing there because it was knocking?

You really feel a HUGE difference when you turn the boost up. Still shouldnt be that low at 13psi. How much timing are you running?

Thanks for the input guys. I appreciate it.

I'm not worried about the weight of the rims at this point. I'll worry about wheel choice after I finish putting the power down

And the plan is to get this dyno tuned as soon as I finish with the clutch break in. I'm almost there!

That is strange. Adding a dump tube might help remedy the problem.

I just went from a dump tube to plumbed into the exhaust. I sure hope I didn't open myself up to new problems doing that because it sounded horrible dumped.

That doesn't seem bad at all.

The flip side of that is that the crack pressure can be "adjusted to reduce lead in boost spikes or reduce spool up time". I guess you have to choose between the two, or find a nice medium.

Alright, I guess I'll just have to put up with it. Any idea on how I can rescale the RPM and/or TP to better suit my needs? Hopefully it'll be less jumpy once scaled correctly.

It only goes up to 5600rpm with that tune, and ~3000rpm with another. :?
