Dizzy Timing Problem

stock ka24E: My dizzy is all the way retarded and the timing is still 5 degree's advanced. It's been like that for a little while now but I'd like to fix it so I don't do any damage to the motor on hot days / bad gas. I must have botched it when I did the timing chain last year before I parked it. W...

I was planning on using the coolant plug on the exhaust side of the motor.

It looks like a pretty decent spot, right in the middle of the block, fairly close to the head... and no need to drill out the block.

I had issues with RTV setting when I did mine too. Be sure to tighten it finger tight let it stand for 30 minutes or so, THEN tighten it up.

The chain will stretch out pretty quick once you get some play in there I think. I just did the chain on my SOHC a month or two ago, The original guides were still completely intact but it was still buzzing away at something inside... I couldn't figure it out, I thought it'd be best to change out al...

you'll need a fuel pump if you don't already have one.

As far as I've read, it's always pure luck however long your car will last if you're only using SAFC. It's pretty important to be able to control your timing, or have a tune that's already done it for you.

Stock KAE running really rich idle

Does anyone know what might cause a completely stock SOHC to run 11.0 AFR's at idle. When the motor first starts it sticks around 14.7 for about 10 seconds, then rapidly falls to 11.0 and hovers around there. If I pump the breaks it leans out a bit. If I keep pumping the brakes I can control the AFR...

Nissan will probably have them but it might be stupid expensive.

I'm sure someone has some kicking around they could throw your way. People always seem to have spare SOHC's laying around.

i didn't mean try pluggin the hole with rtv or something like that, i meant the spare pump you can use either rtv or the paper gasket. it wouldn't matter if you plugged that hole, the pump would still be bad, lol. lol, I thought that sounded a little Extra ghetto than normal. Probably would still s...

Yea its def a SOHC pump. Maybe they are interchangeable (that'd be nice).

I just swapped it with a spare one I had so I'm not really interested in doing a ghetto fix like plugging that hole. Good tip to stretch the life out a bit though.

Basic Water Pump Q - no 56k

My pump was leaking worse and worse every time I drove the car since I did the timing chain. It wouldn't leak (presumably at all) while driving, but as soon as I parked it, it would drip for a while, maybe dropping 1/4 cup of fluid over a long time (overnight) Primary question: This pump was leaking...

It varies depending on who you ask. I suggest doing a search. if using DOHC pistons in a SOHC motor: I've heard it'll drop the compression by 1 point I've also heard that it'll drop it to around 7.1:1 because the pistons are dished and SOHC ones are not. Either way you're going to lose some bottom e...

with that kind of thinking you should buy a riced out civic and join them. In all honesty, I love all cars as long as they perform. o2 feedback should be off, for some reason it keeps getting turned back on though. my understanding was that if the ECU received no signal at all from the o2 sensor that it would default to the fuel map and be unable to enter closed loop. Actually It's a stock set up till the spare motor is rebuilt and turbo ready.

No boost or vacuum gauge installed yet.

using nistune, but it does nothing to adjust the AFR's at Idle.. In fact I can only enrich the mixture further.

Stock O2 is unplugged.

Make sure all your intercooler connections are secure and on properly. Make sure your MAF is plugged in properly and isn't damaged. Blow through set up or standard pre-turbo MAF set up? If the only thing that has changed is that your intercooling piping came off while driving, I'd start by checking ...

Rich Idle, goes away when....

My car is idling pig rich, sometimes as low as 11.5 AFR. mostly around really low 12's though. When I pump the brake I can literally lean it right out depending on how fast I pump it.

Any ideas what's going on here?
