Shimmed R200V from Z32 N/A in S13 (with pics)
Hello all, just wanted to share some tips from my recent install of a shortnose R200 Viscous (R200V) from a Non-turbo Z32 300ZX. I got this differential for $49 from a local junkyard. 300ZXs seem to be easier to find for parts than S14s, and I've really not seen many S13 R200Vs. I was skeptical of i...

Back in a 240SX - LS1 time.
Hey guys, just stopping by to share some info on the R200V swap into my S13. Wanted to leave some part numbers and pictures so other people who are looking to do the swap have some tips. I picked up a 1989 240SX coupe about a month ago, I'm going to part out my LS1 Firebird and install the engine an...

BHG'd again, Washing my hands. It was fun while it stayed together in brief stints. Time for a C5 Corvette!
A guy is coming to pick the shell up, I'll pull the KA-T and be parting it out soon, let me know if you are interested in anything.

Re: FlatBlack's 96 S14 KA-T
Well - the engine worked well yesterday at the autocross, I had zero engine problems and the power was immediate and ample. I am very pleased with the powertrain [when it is working properly ;)] The battery tie-down snapped mid third run, cracked my battery, and broke a cable connector. Ran to the p...

Re: FlatBlack's 96 S14 KA-T
Put my trigger wheel in the 'new' dizzy and it has been working fine ever since. The 3 month old E-85 isn't good anymore, it's cutting out at throttle tip in. Going to drain the tank and fill it up this weekend.
There is an autocross on Sunday I hope to make, this time I'll use my Go-Pro.

Re: DIY Trigger Wheel Install
Wicked, thanks so much for the quick response. So you set it to 15deg (on fixed timing) then did you adjust the distributor manually or change the #1 tooth angle or whatever in "trigger wheel settings"? Don't change the tooth angle - manually adjust the distributor. There is a "trigg...

Re: DIY Trigger Wheel Install
For a toothed wheel. Since you only use 1st angle to set up timing, when your setting your base timing do you set it to fixed timing or use table? I just can't find a write up for this. Thanks again. When you are using the timing light to set the 'base' [mechanical] timing of the distributor, use f...

Re: FlatBlack's 96 S14 KA-T
Here are some pictures from the June race. I am getting more body roll than I expected, I might go from my 450/500# springs to the 550/600s a friend gave me. https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc3/q71/s720x720/2010_10100773498909124_1812802381_n.jpg https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd...

Been driving the car around on the Z31 T3 and LOVING it. If it'll dyno over 300, I might just keep it on the tiny turbo. Here is a log to show the spool time. 190 kPA is a little over 14 PSI at my elevation [ambient 94.0 kPa]. I can improve my spool time even more when I get a proper downpipe flange...

Got all of the studs out with some vice grips, wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I modified my Turbonetics 5-bolt flange to fit on the 7-bolt housing. I got 4 bolts around the hot side exit, but I'm sure the flange is leaking slightly on the wastegate port side. I have more time than money right now...

Got the filter and turbo in today. Joe at Arizona Turbo sent the bearings back with it. I am going to run the Z31 turbo for a while. A friend is cutting me a flange for the 7-bolt T3 housing, and I'm going to make a long downpipe. The T3 spools really quickly, so I might run it at the next autocross...

Joe at Arizona Turbo said the bearings loosened up, and what he thought was a foreign object from the pictures was indeed a hard housing strike. He found some metal in the bearings, and said the turbo was dragging, which was probably why it wasn't spooling as fast as it should have. He had to replac...

Right, but I press on regardless. This is 100% a 'toy' for me, so no surprises really put me in a bad spot. I have three cars and a motorcycle that I ride to work everyday. I really like how I have the chassis setup, and plan to keep it for some time. The turbo just got to Arizona, we'll see tomorro...

Jesus man, one thing after another huh? Do you think that's the reason your turbo blew up? I know w/o oil running through it, the shaft with have more play than usual. Going to wait for Joe to call me before I come to conclusions, but I got another friend telling me the compressor fins look like so...

I found this last night, stuck in the oil feed adapter. I'm playing around with a Z31 turbo I had laying around. I couldn't get it to clock, so the oil drain is not hooked up. Started the car, and no oil came out. pulled the adapter off, blew in it, and this came out. It's a loose piece of red RTV f...

Dang man, that's some bad luck right there. Yep. Pretty much put me over the edge. Going to rock the KA-T for the rest of 2013, then doing an aluminum V8 swap. Probably a 1UZ. Might VH45DE if I really hate myself. Would keep me in SM but it's so much heavier than the KA, LS1, and 1UZ. We'll see wha...

And it continues   Got everything done to the chassis, alignment was good and the car had great turn-in response. Pulled the car off the trailer at the autocross, warmed it up, and drove around the paddock. Heard the turbo hit the compressor housing when I gave it some throttle. Coasted b...
