Re: MINI VAN WITH A DIFFERENCE (video Added)
Yes there is an equalising pipe on the intake, I have reduced comp ratio to 7.5:1 and advanced the timing Throughout the Rev range. Now the engine is running so much smoother, zero det. Beginning to have a lot more faith in the build, I am loving that the torque is in nice and low. Van is currently ...

Re: Piston Help
I'm hoping that lowering the CR will allow me to advance the timing back to where it is getting the most efficient burn.

Re: Piston Help
Now received my 7.5:1 ratio pistons, guess it's going to be a case of let's see what happens to the power after they are fitted and mapped. Any guesses on the results ?

Re: MINI VAN WITH A DIFFERENCE (video Added)
What would be my best option to convert to manual ? Not worried about the gear linkage, just the best direct fit and able to handle over 500ftlb

Re: MINI VAN WITH A DIFFERENCE (video Added)
S-chassis ? I live in the UK so there is no 240sx here, I am tempted to chop the bell housing and weld on to the Z31 tranny. Happy that the flywheels fit, I can obtain a high torque clutch easier being a 300zx clutch. Getting a Z31bolt pattern sent to me so I can put it up to my block for difference...

Re: MINI VAN WITH A DIFFERENCE (video Added)
I am still investigating a manual conversion, my Largo runs the same auto transmission as the 300zx (same code) will the equivalent manual transmission bolt straight on (Z31) ? Bell housing looks very similar to my Auto one. I realise that because of the way the largo transmission is mounted that I ...

Re: Piston Help
Finding this all very hard to compute, I use this site above all others because I believe you have the best understanding of the Ka24de-t. I trust my tuner but I have my doubts about the map, I built a perfect engine. ....ok I did have a slight header leak after mapping but the motor was spot on. $1...

Re: Piston Help
Yes and no, some variables. The fuel in the UK is **** compared to the US, even though its 97/8 ron the octane is poor. Having to retard the ignition so much (as above) only goes to prove that det is a major problem, don't forget this is not the 240sx set up.The largo has a different head and coolin...

Re: Piston Help
After 7.5:1 forged pistons, lots of discussion about this but you can't change physics. 1.5Bar boost requires lower compression pistons. My motor will det its ass off if I don't, you can all say I'm mad but it makes complete sense. If the standard ratio is 9.2:1then add 22psi you can't just retard t...

Re: Piston Help
I built everything myself, I sync'd the timing etc etc. I have ordered new parts and will start stripping the engine soon.
I'm going to try something new to try and reduce the Det.

Re: Piston Help
The reason for retarding the timing that much is Det, there must be a reason why the import largo and the 240sx run different base timing ?

Re: Piston Help
Are you all in agreement, the map is poor ? I have to pay out for yet another strip down and rebuild. I have spoken to the tuner and he said it's not the map.
Having said that I wanted to just get in and drive my van, it's very disappointing that you all say the tune is at fault.

Re: Piston Help
So far I'm going to get new rings, small ends just in case and a 1.5mm head gasket just to lower the compression slightly. I think it will need a tune again after but it will be ok to drive up to the garage on the original map ?

I already checked the bottom end and mains, no damage. Think the small ends are gone, will not know for sure until I drop the engine out again and strip the pistons out.

Re: Piston Help
Between 2500 and 2800 if I remember right but I only had it back from the mappers for 1 day before it blew the plugs and started knocking. When I inspected the big ends and mains the oil I removed smelled badly of fuel.

Re: Piston Help
Too much retard will have unburnt fuel stay in the cylinder which loses power, overheats, i.e. higher cylinder temps which melt electrodes as your tuner stated. Hence your plugs are fouled. Can you post a timing map of your tune? We generally reduce timing 1:1 for every psi. You can start from 25* ...

Re: Piston Help
Im lost, I built a spot on engine and it lasted 1 day before the plugs melted to death. I now have to remove the engine and find out the extent of the damage caused. Mapper said that the extremely retarded ignition caused the extra heat and melted the iridium 8's ???

Piston Help
I am looking for a company that can supply 89.5mm forged pistons with a 7.5:1 CR for the 24de engine. I know you are all wondering why so low, well basically the UK fuel is expensive and crap. To be able to run the correct timing @ 1.5 bar without det I need to lower the compression ratio right down...
Re: Thoughts
Did a compression test and these are the results. 150/130/118/130 Gone down from 190 all cylinders. Being asked this by the person mapping the car....compression ratio which I'm guessing should be 9.0:1 with CP Pistons and he wants to know the cc volume of the head and piston @ TDC. Please excuse my...
Re: Thoughts
Going to carry out a compression test later and see if there is any tell tail signs of damage. If not the the engine will have to come out yet again :-(
