Re: Tuning to avoid head lift

I was using saturn studs. (although i did not install or tq them, but they seemed evenly tq'd when I removed them). I agree that I should not have been lifting my head at such low boost. (although this turbo does build 15psi before 3,000rpm.) I'm thinking that detonation that I could not hear must h...

Re: Tuning to avoid head lift

It wasn't overheating from timing retard. The headgasket was allowing leakage and the head was lifting at 15psi+. That timing map I posted was only tuned up to 220kpa, above that is retarded further in case of boost spikes. The numbers in the 220kpa break point were knock limited (audible with no he...

Tuning to avoid head lift

I was recently fighting an intermittent overheating issue that turned out to be due to head lift and the head gasket showing signs of very small leaks, but in 9 places! Engine is (finally) back together with felpro and ARP 2000 head studs tq'ed to 75 ftlb. I am running 9.5:1 CR with an EFR 6758 @15p...

Re: Trouble pulling timing chain idler

against my better judgement, a few (relatively) soft blows with a hammer and a piece of wood knocked it off. Crazy how stuck it was!

Re: Trouble pulling timing chain idler

I took the bolt out, and the sproket slides on the shaft, but the shaft is stuck to the head. Because the shaft isn't moving, the chain runs into the lower guides if you try to slide the sproket off the shaft. (I'm pulling the head with the lower covr still on) A little background, the engine was bu...

Trouble pulling timing chain idler

Hey guys, I'm in the middle of doing a headgasket on a 96 ka24de. I've got the upper chain off, but the idler is being stopped from sliding off by the lower chain hitting the tensioner/guide??? Its like the idle gear is sliding, but only relative to its shaft (13016M in the picture below): http://ww...

Re: overheating, only during high boost

I upped the boost from 10 to 17psi when the over heating started, but was shooting for 400whp eventually. I had been running 10 psi for about 3yrs without issue.

Re: overheating, only during high boost

It will if that turbo is too small on the exhaust side. My torque was in the 500's but I made 572TQ on the stock intake. I run a 1 a/r turbine housing tho. If you can build 10 psi just reving the motor the. That means you can spoil the turbo almost instantly. Not good for a 2.4L with a long stroke ...

Re: overheating, only during high boost

Do yourself a big favor and check the complete head thickness so you know how much the head has been shaved. Factory head height is 4.972-4.980. That way if you need to get a thicker head gasket to keep stock compression you will be good. Also, you will need to prep both surfaces to a mirror finish...

Re: overheating, only during high boost

Thanks adamky. I may take you up on those. I'm pretty sure it has ARP's, but I'll see which ones they are while I'm in there... Does the cosworth gasket require the same deck/head finishes that the cometic does? I think the head has already been decked and rather not push it. CR is already 9 or 9.5:...

Re: overheating, only during high boost

I assume you meant "head: not ear haha. Crazy that he was getting lift even with ARP's. Cyl pressure should be a direct correlation with engine tq, so i guess you could sacrifice tq, to hit higher hp numbers, but that seems less than ideal. Any suggestion on how to improve the sealing capabilit...

overheating, only during high boost

Hi everyone, I've spent most of my time on this board in the megasquirt area, but... I'm having trouble overheating. Been trying to sort this out for months. Setup: Mishimoto radiator, clutch fan, modified shroud to fit IC piping, but I have driven with no shroud in the summer with out issue, ambien...

Re: Maxima COP Triggering

Ah,I see where I was getting confused. Thanks. Any ideas why having my coils plugged in would cause resets that don't occur when I unplug them? I even powered/grounded the MS from a separate 12v source to try and eliminate possible noise or cranking voltage drop issues and I have the same problem......

Re: Maxima COP Triggering

The MSPNP is set up so that "Going high" means it sends a 0 volt signal when off and 5 volts when dwelling the coil. Some circuits in the MS1/Extra manual use the opposite logic. Can you clarify this? I have read elsewhere that going high means that 0v charges the coil and then when the s...

So tried to start it up last night with the new COP's. When I turned the key to ON the coils got hot. I was using Spark Inverted = Yes as the how to suggested (link in previous post). I switched it to NO and the coils aren't getting hot, but the engine won't start. (Didn't try to start with inverted...

Thanks, I didn't realize there was documentation like that for the PNP's... Re: MS1 - hard/NO starts

Thanks! Although if you look at the first diagram I attached (edited OEM diagram) the injectors do not seem to be powered all the time, only when the key is in run/crank.
