Re: Keegan's superslow s13 build
I figured I'd bump this one time before going. I got in all in and was running it hard between 25-30 psi. ended up rebuilding the t04e with 360 thrust bearing, t04z compressor wheel, 30 psi. Blew every headgasket because it was pulling like a freight train, spun through 4th and stuff. Well I parted ...

Running a modified thermostat vs restrictor
Well since ive gotten my motor in and running, I literally can't get my damn car to bleed. Raised the front up ~2 feet, used a bleeder funnel on both the swirl tank and radiator, tried bleeding it without the swirl tank in the system, and no matter what, the lower hose will not warm up. I have a tem...

Re: Use rotella 15w40 as part of the break in process?
I use 15w40 because this was a oem budget build with used rods/crank/stock size bearings, so my clearances are on the loose side. Broke it in today, even on 8 lbs it pulls healthy

Use rotella 15w40 as part of the break in process?
Tomorrow might be the day I start my fresh engine, and I was curious if you could use rotella as a oil? I was going to follow this + motormans street method 1) Fill motor with standard (non-synthetic) 30W and install new oil filter. 2) Remove fuel pump fuse and spin motor over for 15-20 seconds at a...

Stock rod numbering
I'm working with 7 good pistons and rod setups, and I'm currently a little confused on the numbering. I have 2 sets, both with rod numbers 1-4, however one is bent/cracked ringlands. Is there any real significance with the numbers? Basically I want to run the 4 best ones, which would mean I would ha...

Used pistons, sticky wrist pins?
So after a mishap with overboosting, I need a piston and rod. Picked up 4 more piston/rod combos from a friend, supposedly from a s14 ka. 2/4 of them are really hard to rotate on the wrist pins, so would it be better to use the 3 good ones out of my block, or would I have a issue running sticky wris...

248 248 cam swap left depressions on my pistons!
Im at a loss honestly. I followed the hot cam swap to a tee (this was on a fresh motor mind you) went 3 teeth ccw, even went as far as to pull the matching lifters 1-8 out of the donor head and drop them in mine so all clearances would be good. Ended up pulling the head today because the evergreen h...

^^ x2 to that. And if the release sleeve is rotating in the clutch fork and then you need to replace the sleeve and fork. Mine did the same, killed a few bearings before I figured out what was happening. The fork is U shaped, and and sleeve also has 2 flat parts that line up. Mine wore into an o and...

I planned on just running an ebay rebuild kit with npr bearings/rings/pistons, but I might have a bore gauge at the shop, so I might try that out first and go from there. My impatient self already hot tanked the block, cleaned up the surfaces, and painted it  https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hph...

I thought I had taken a picture of the pistons as well but I guess not, ill get one monday. You cant feel the scuffing with a fingernail or anything, so I was goi...

Where does everyone have theirs? Im running a dual core radiator, with 2 efans triggered by key on, good water pump, and good, new, thermostat (also has 1 extra hole drilled in it) My mechanical gauge is in the block under the exhaust manifold, and im seeing on average 200-210 on a moderately warm d...

Simple check, put the fuel pressure gauge in, jump it to 12v, and block off the line (vice grips work fine) AFTER the gauge but before the rail. if you get pressure, your pump works. (however dont rule it out just yet) Also try blocking off the return line after the fpr. Does it show pressure? If no...
