Re: high boost pump gas question
I doubt you'd want to push pump gas boost that high without a Dyno. At 21 psi, the highest I ever ran on 93 I was around 12.5 degres for safety. On e85 and 26 psi now at 14 degres

Re: Turboholics Cams. Anyone have concrete info?
Crower and not Brian Crower I assume. I've heard a lot of different things, from kelford, to jwt s1 knock offs. Either way I'm sure they're better than my bc V2. I just got cam gears in today. Is there a standard concensus on timing them? Standard I've seen is 2.5 degree retard on intake and 2.5 adv...

Turboholics Cams. Anyone have concrete info?
Long story short I bought a set of "jwt s1's" off of here a few years back. Get them in, jwt nowhere to be found on the package, after looking around I realize I had a set of turboholics Cams. Turboholic himself didn't know much about these cams other than they came from Australia, and wer...

Yea but his turbo came online super late. I think he made like 550 torque and 800 hp. No he's not putting crazy amounts of stress at low rpms like these holsets have the potential to.

Re: MegaSquirt/Tuner Studio Tuning Theories/Concepts
Let me know how high you take the boost on that bad boy. We have pretty much the same setup. I'm curious how far the 10mm headstuds can hold on for. I've been running 26-27 psi for awhile with no issues now. Getting a 3.5 inch turbo back made, that should help out with the back pressure these turbos...

Re: Ka24de Rebulid Help
It's all very simple. In general any name brand piston/ rod/ spring will get the job done. I'm running k1 tech rods, which don't exist anymore, and arias pistons. I recommend Manley rods for brands still in business, and arias/wiseco/cp pistons are all great. Super tech Springs and retainers are pro...

Re: Valve lash issue or normal noise?
Glad you got it checked out. Let me know your process for measuring and buying new shims. Also be mindful that some cam manufacturers suggest different lash than factory for whatever reason.

Re: Valve lash issue or normal noise?
Unfortunate not, the cams sit mere mm above the shims, you have to remove them. Buts it's cake work. I can swap cams in 45 minutes. Set the motor to top dead center, break the front cam bolts free, feed a zip tie around the chain and gear to keep it in place and remove the cams. The chain can't droo...

Re: Aftermarket FPR
If it's aftermarket, lower the pressure. Having an aftermarket one is in no way a bad thing, even on a stock car. You won't get more fuel than a stock one, as long as correct pressure is set. If I recall it's 43.5 psi with the vacuum line off at idle. If it's at that pressure and still running rich ...

Re: Valve lash issue or normal noise?
If you put in new valves, especially +1 because they have to make the valve seats bigger, the valves will now sit much higher and therefore need to have the lash redone, I don't recommend driving it, let alone revving it. It can cause premature wear on the cams and shims, as well as easily burning a...

Re: Best oil for ka-t
I've actually been considering running a cooler myself. They have pretty nifty ones on eBay that come with a remote filter housing. I've never measured my oil Temps, but I only do short pulls, 1/4 mile at most and let off, so not much time to heat it up. But with only 4 quarts I'm sure it could use ...

Re: Best oil for ka-t
I'm doing mine every 2k. Normally I'd have no problem going more but with a turbo ka you face a couple issues that kill oil. First off once you go turbo, 90% of us are screwing with the factory pcv system, which can go a long way for keeping moisture and other particles out of the oil. For instance ...

Re: Best oil for ka-t
Why the 40 over the 'normal' 30? Because diesel oils don't have to conform to as strict of emissions regulations. This allows them to have extra soft metals in the formula, which helps tremendously with bearing life, as well as other additives. Plus all of them are made for turbos, high temperature...

That's what I run and have run in all of my turbo cars. Just tried the comparable valvoline synthetic 5w40 diesel, seems about the same, which is good! Perhaps a little less oil usage even. Just buy whatever is on sale in a synthetic 5w40 diesel oil and you should be good to go

Well first thing I notice is your pistons are different colors. That seems like bad fueling to me. One or 2 cylinders running leaner than others. Or it could've been coolant from the blown head gasket cleaning off that piston

Re: Brand new engine and ecu questions
I've broken in 2 motors on mspnp. Only 1 blew up! Jk. You'll be fine with megasquirt, just have a competent tuner or read up yourself on scaling injectors and the fuel map. It won't be that big of a deal even if it's pig rich, it should only be for a few minutes/ miles at most

Kill3rwill Saturday night meet
At the local car meet I got called out by a hell cat challenger. Stock with cat back and drag radials. We did a 40 roll, I spun all of 2nd and fell behind, I reeled him in and was ahead by 1 length when we let off at 120. I beat a hell cat with my jankty piece of crap. 'merica

Re: MegaSquirt/Tuner Studio Tuning Theories/Concepts
I punched in 9.7 afr under the required fuel and then just used the value it generated and put the afr back to 14.7. It ended up being around 35% exactly. That ended up being too much as the tank had a few gallons of 93 left. I just dropped the req fuel till I idled back at 14.7 and then used ve liv...

Re: Spark Plug keeps breaking
I would agree with poot if all your plugs looked like this. If it's just one plug I'm leaning towards a bad injector or bad injector wiring on that cylinder. Lack of fuel can cause the knock and therefore pitting on the plug as seen here.

Hey supa, did you have a pump gas tune before you went e85? If so I'm curious what all was necessary to scale when you made the switch. Looks like just add around 35% more injector scaling and crank the startup fueling way up.

Re: Bad valve seals?
Turbo seals shouldn't smoke upon startup, the exhaust isn't hot enough to burn them off yet. In the other hand leaking valve stem seals are pulling oil right into the combustion chamber on startup, as well as anytime your under heavy vacuum, such as low throttle /cruising

Re: MegaSquirt/Tuner Studio Tuning Theories/Concepts
Yea you'd still hear pre-ignition. It's fuel explaining after being sucked in through the intake valve, I would assume it could technically happen once the fuel becomes rich enough to combust, but I would think it would realistically combust after the valve has closed and whatever is hot has had tim...

Re: MegaSquirt/Tuner Studio Tuning Theories/Concepts
To me pre ignition is heat related, like a glowing plug, whereas knock is obviously from too advanced of ignition and the piston fights the flame front. I'm running an ngk 7 iridium now, plan on switch to an 8 once I crank the e85. And I'm also giving v8's a run for their money! I'm on pump and meth...

Alright guys, spent the last few hours doing research, time to drop some knowledge bombs. As it turns out e85 is damn near completely knockblocking. lol. that word sounds funny. But as it turns out it is quite "pre-ignition" prone, compared to 93. What this means is that advanced timing ca...

Anything to set up or adjust with either of these options? Or simply turn on and go. I was under the impression that knock sensors pick up and filter certain harmonics, so determining that harmonic seems a little scary. Like if I we had to induce knock to get it working
