Re: Catch can flow restriction
I also don't think there's much restriction, your setup should be fine. But I'm not a fan of vent to atmosphere PCV systems (but everyone does it), I'd rather see the PCV hooked up to the exhaust or intake to provide suction on the crankcase, but these are difficult to plumb imo. Regardless, I also ...

Re: Motor angle question
Larger drain line or smoother corner should fix it. I wouldn't rotate the engine too much seeing as they are designed that way (assuming for oil circulation) I agree with this. What size drain line are you using and how high is your turbo mounted (top mount/bottom mount)? I honestly think most peop...

Re: First KA-T build, question/issue
Do SOHC blocks have a knock sensor? If so, I have been running the TurboXS knock lite and it has saved my motor more times than I can count. My worst was running an aftermarket crank pulley that had the timing marks off. Even with the JWT ECU I noticed I was knocking at high RPM high boost until I f...

Supporting turbo manifold and and cat back
This has always been in the back of my mind. But how does everyone have their turbo system supported? I am currently running a bottom mount turbo which is supported by heim joint bolted to a bracket on the block with no exhaust/transmission mount. I've tried running a few different exhaust brackets ...

Re: Crank questions...
^ exactly as said above. KA24 stock cranks are very reliable and can hold quite a bit of power. Nissan has been built them to be just as tough as the L-series engines used in the 70's and 80's. Those engines were used extensively in racing; though the main difference is that KA cranks used a HCW des...

Re: oil in spark plug tube, fix WITHOUT removing valve cover
RTV will work but you have to be absolutely sure that it is dry and free of oil and dirt. Otherwise it will never seal properly. The best thing is to take the valve cover off, clean the gasket, and put some RTV on both sides to seal it properly..

Re: People with AMS manifold, turbo bolts tightening
FWIW, I was able to tighten it down using a 14mm wrench with an offset head. In my case it was pointless because I found the oil drain gasket leaking so I pulled the whole turbo assembly. Bought m10x1.25 inconel turbo studs from GCG Turbos in AUS, installed them with Heico-Lock washers, put in new g...

Re: Ever consider a non-KA swap?
Back when I bought my car and didn't know anything about anything circa 2003, I considered SR20's because people had been doing it in the magazines. I started changing my mind when I read a book about the L-series motors and its history evolving into the KA and had a bunch of domestic friends who ra...

Re: People with AMS manifold, turbo bolts tightening
For some reason I didn't think of that, or I did and thought I would **** up the wheel with my shaky hands (on the account of being a former crack addict). Either way, I'm going to try that this weekend since it's a hell of a lot easier than removing the manifold/turbo assembly. I might also try cut...

People with AMS manifold, turbo bolts tightening
Anyone here have an AMS manifold? 3 of the 4 bolts came loose causing an exhaust leak. With the turbo still in the car, I removed the downpipe which allowed me access to 3 out of 4 bolts. Unfortunately the bolt at the front closer to the engine looks pretty inaccessible. I'm not sure if there's a wa...

Re: Cooling issue
Breather tank is not an overflow tank. Breather tanks are what you see alot on German cars, its a pressurized coolant tank that is connected to all the high spots in the cooling system (e.g. radiator cap, upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, head) to eliminate air bubbles in the entire system a...
Re: POR15
I live in the rust belt so my car saw plenty of salt before I made it a summer only car. I use POR-15 and Eastwood Rust Encapsulator depending on the location. Been pretty happy with them so far. The biggest thing with this stuff is prep and following instructions.

Re: catch can to intake pipe
You can make anything, like get one of those tire valve stems that can be disassembled; drill a hole in the intake pipe and insert the nipple from inside the pipe and tighten it down with rubber washer and nut outside. Personally I bought a vacuum fitting from vibrant that places a rubber fitting in...
