309 is it, dont use mild steel. just dont. Tri-gas is awesome, but way to baller for us guys that are only welding manifolds, not aerospace stuff.

I have no problem dong that as well, i just find that i do warp stuff by heat soaking the material that way. But either way, whatever makes the metal stick

o safety is one thing. SFI spec? i doubt an aluminum flywheel would go through the trans bell houseing seeing that its just as soft as the metal thats trying to go through it. the flywheel is also in the engine bay and not directly in line with your feet. Well, the two metals, while both are alumin...

i dont think you understood what i meant. When you pulse, you effectively are making a circle. I overlap each pulse, or "circle" where i cover up at least 80% of the last pulse. It looks like this (((((((((((( rather than this ( ( ( ( ( ( ( ( Also, I pulse extremely quick, so I get excelle...

Aluminum flywheels will probably never be SFI approved. Ever. Steel simply is a better choice, besides, if you make enough power to damage your drivetrain from that extra "oomph" of torque through shifting, it may be time to consider a transmission upgrade anyways.

mig or tig. Tig takes a decent amount of practice, but if you can mig pretty well, then go with that.

i guess i must clarify, i do manually pulse everything thick though, typically covering around 80% of my previous weld "bead", so thats why so hot.

not for manifold and ic piping. that doesnt imply any logic to me, unless by manifold and ic piping you mean farm gates and fences.

Tell your welder buddy to use more heat on the manifold and to quit pulsing over his original weld, it looks too obvious to me.

Fitup looks pretty good, but you really need to spend more time on cleaning the material. I usually spend 15 minutes per every hour on cleaning and prep alone, and it really makes a massive difference. As far as your welding, you simply need more heat and better control of your filler metal. Rather ...

15 cfh isn't much at all, I typically run around 22cfh. Regardless, I must restate my earlier comment, excellent fitup!

Stainless steel is a performance alloy in the automotive world, as it "holds" heat in better, however I am a huge fan of using mild steel and having it ceramic coated afterwards, to better maintain the heat through thermal insulation.

No need to be sorry, like I said, there are a bunch of "correct" ways to build a turbo exhaust manifold, this is just my summary based on what research I have done, which like I said is based on over 100 boosted applications that I have been involved with. I would like to consider that res...

Good job on fit-up. What kinda of gap you set for those pieces, or do you butt the bevels together?

This is all in speculation, so there are many theories and educated guesses. I won't say mine is "correct" entirely, but it is close based on my educated "calculations and hypothesis' and experiments" having done work on 100+ boosted applications. You see, an exhaust manifold for...
