Re: going to the dark side
Back from the dead, I know, but it's my thread, lol! Anyway, since this is a turbo site, i thought y'all would like to see an update. After a lot of problems I finally got it all worked out and am running an iron 5.3 chevy v8 with two gtx2860r's compounded with an 80mm billet Chinese turbo. 24ish ps...

Re: Stock block reliability at 400ft/lbs
I bent all 4 rods at just 350 wtq. 3 were just tweaked, one was quite curvy. Also broke the counter shaft in the stock trans at the same power. Now LS1 and then it caught fire from old ass fuel hose. Can't win for losing.

As for rods, some have made it to 400HP stock. My stock ones bent at 320whp, all 4. To run stock pistons, you have to have a good tune or you will bust ring lands from spark knock. I'm running supertech pistons, cheap and I've had no problems. Lots of guys run eagle rods, and i haven't heard of them...

Get rods for 300. Pistons too, unless your amazing at tuning.

i've heard of ppl putting the later model q45 output shafts in the earlier diff. i tried it, it works, but i think you have to put the correct seals for the corresponding output shafts or it'll have a slow leak-not horrible tho. then you can run early model j30 axles (which i think have stronger joi...

you need to make sure you have the correct temp sensor. i ran into that a couple years ago running an s13 sensor in my s14 and it showing its overheating. another issue i ran into was heat soak with just electric fans. after driving around for a while, it would get real hot, but stay under the h mar...

i like that guy's idea, but i've heard of others that have done it and the hose gets extremely hot and wont hold pressure after a while. maybe look into a steel braided hose for the feed if your going that route. FYI: i used 2 of the short auto trans coolant lines bent as needed. the banjo bolts are...

If you are not using a fwd fan setup, i recommend you put a clutch fan on it. I had a heat soak problem with an aluminum rad and a 14 in and 12 in e fans. Put just the clutch fan on it, and BAM! no more heat soak. haven't seen it over 89°c since. With just the e fans It wouldn't over heat but it did...

Seems to me the shim under is lighter from less material thus less reciprocating mass for safer, higher redline due to less stress on the springs. As for a true need for them, that depends on your wallet. i think you may run into harmonics issues from a hcw crank at super high RPMs before valve floa...

Ended up seeing small broken bubbles in my coolant when i revved it up. Went ahead and pulled the head and had a little (very small) pitting on the head at the back by the back coolant packages. My guess is that the leak was so small that so long as the t stat was open it could do ok, and after it c...

Just driving down the interstate, not accelerating, just cruising at about 75, then all of a sudden my Trans makes a loud grinding noise and won't accelerate anymore.

Well, I went and got a tester, waiting for it to cool down to check if its leaking. Just went for a drive, and it seems to do right. 40mph @ 2krpm, gives 90-92*C in nistune. 35mph @ 4krpm. prolonged, gives 96*C. Back to the house, and at idle, it goes to 95*C, fan kickes on, back to 90*C, fan kicks ...

havent found this in particular, so here goes... ok, so '95 240, aluminum radiator, dual efans, metal headgasket, turbo. runs fine, no smoke, no oil contamination, no coolant leaks. upon first startup, everything is fine (car warms up to 95, fans kick on, cools down to 90, fans kick off), unless you...
