Why not just connect the SCV to a manifold vacuum source? That way at low throttle events like cruise, it be closed and when you open the throttle, it opens as there is not vacuum to close the SCV..

gets power from the factory 12v source.. think i still need to do the relay mod?

The coil is already getting 20 volts from the XS engineering powerpak.

how many miles are on your chain? over150K I would change it.

A little tip. you can find the shim removal tool on ebay for $30. You dont have to pull the cams each time you change shims. search for Toyota Valve Shim tool. It has an "S" shaped tool, and a claw tool thing. its pretty sweet. I shimed a head in no time.

It also depends on how fast the engine is cranking, and cam timing. Say, a 248 cam swap would get different compression numbers than a standard 240/248. Im pretty sure the FSM has some kind of Compression spec,. X PSI at something like 250rpm. A better way to find out if it is dying is a compression...

I would say it is too small.. they are barely big enough for a 2.2 liter... go bigger.

as long as your timing is correct, you will be fine. And if you are looking for a 248 cam and are wanting proper cam timing, Look at getting an altima exhaust cam and chopping of the dis gear. It has the probper timing when put in the intake side..
