Get the motor. You want the cams for ths s14 ka if not changed already plus an extra block and head. Always good to have a spare but better to slowly build a strong block.

Piston Carbon Buildup Removal Methods

I had a simple question. How does the DIY'er remove carbon buildup on a piston? I have heard different ways, carb cleaner, green brilo pad plus oil, sand/bean blast, etc. How much did an auto shop charge to remove carbon? I just wanted to get a feel how many people did what and how.

dam that sucks. Oil pump failure is a harsh thing. Hopefully the block is straight and crank, if not 20 or 40 over to rebuild.

i'll tell you one thing about Nissan. They love to reuse parts. We fitted an L28 clutch on a KA. That is a 280z motor which was made from the 70's to the 80's before being replaced by the Z31. There were an S chassis code. Anyways, we took a 280z turbo pressure plate and clutch and slapped it on. Al...

If you got the motor to tumble with starting fluid, you know the spark is good. As for the fuel, double check your connections and verify the in and out lines are correct. Also, get an injector diode tester to make sure the injectors are getting a pulse. If your timing is off, you should still get a...

I am actually going to get a Stanza Auto Ecu and chip it. Stanza with a zif socket, and 28 pin eeproms. Running the daughter board or a 42 or 48 pin eeprom, I cant remember, is not my cup of tea. I like the easier route so I can start tuning. One of my friends owns a shop and has the burner and emul...

I too wanted to try this. But I decided to get an IC from Treadstone, bar and plate design. and outsource the other utensils. The only other thing to assume is the size of the turbo. T25 are tooo small for the ka. Theres a sr fwd b13 in the shop and the 25 is to small. I personally will go no lower than a t3 with a a/r .63 in the rear. You can get this turbo from 280z's and 300's.

I want to run a squirt also. Simply leave the MAF alone and go MAP. They are using the squirt on L28's and using the Ford Escort crank trigger setup. Some modifying for the crank trigger to read correctly. I want to go with a squirt but am too waiting for money. Rather spend money on a used ecu, get...

I'll tell you what. S13 KA's have the SCV which does nothing for power. I took a S14 intake runner and swapped with my lower plenum. I removed the EGR and SCV Solenoid. I then followd the vacuum passages from the tb to back of the manifold. Two of the lines run to the scv and egr solenoid. Another o...

The blow by gasses will be pushed out by the pressure in the crankcase. Hence, putting a breather filter on the block will be str8. Without a compressor map were stuck in the mud. Looking at the a/r for the rear, .63 works well and the .48 is small, especially for a long stroke motor. Some of the main issues that arise are the a/r sizes. In logic, bigger a/r take longer to spool and if to big will never turn the shaft to the rig...

I know it is a sad thing. But it is similiar to most people in the world. They don't want to know how or why, they just want it to work. I think it is more fun to learn and apply the physics and be able to explain why you chose to go with a certain setup. Anyhow, we all know Corky Bell's maximum boo...
