stroker dyno results

Post by LSD »

I'm trying to find some results from a 2.6 liter stroker dyno, but can't seem to find any. I know wanabefast had some in the dyno section, but they are gone. Can anybody find some?

The only "results" I remember was a few years ago on this forum someone posting up fake info that they had a fully built show car with a KA-T stroker and were showing at SEMA. Thread was soon deleted.

Here's an example of someone who went all out on a N/A ka24 (now ka26de).
There is a dyno chart in this thread, good stuff. He said he can easily peg the 7500 rpm limiter in spite of having a longer stroke. His results were 177whp. He probably could have reached 165whp with the stock stroke and same mods. The stroker crank is FCW, however. Torque hits 165 at the wheels starting at 2500 rpm.

Man that seems like a big waste of time. A t25 KA makes more power than that.

^ Exactly. Our motors are already stroked. Its big enough to spool a 61mm (600whp capable) turbo to full boost by 4-4.5k and rev to atleast 7.2k. Thats a fat powerband, everyone who rides in my car agrees.

Its unfortunetly a common misconception that Displacement>Boost with our engine. Im not even begining the argument that displacement doesnt equal more power it obviously does....Just saying that with our cars, alot more has been done with much less money than a Na ka26de vs. a T25 sr style build.

He'll probably blow the motor, and then join the army of retards who hate on KA's for no good reason.

it all depends on who you are and what you want and can afford.

I would LOVE to add the BC 2.6L stroker kit to a built KA for KA-T.

It adds displacement, engine balance, and revs. You pay for it.

This is one more way to get more power per psi, at a cost. just like a nice fidanza 11lb flywheel.

I was just trying to find any info I could on the strokes ka's and could not come across anything. I myself just bought a BC stroker crank and pauter rods for a VERY good price and was interested to find anyone who was running a stroker setup.

I'd definitely be interested in seeing the results of a properly built 2.6L turbo stroker setup. I don't theorize that the power improvement will justify the cost, but I'd be stoked if you proved me wrong. Theres no doubt in my mind that the streetability/hp will be better, but how much I don't know.

LSD, you said you have the BC crank and pauter rods. Do the rods allow for the use of standard ka24de pistons are will you have to get pistons with a custom pin offset?

If you decide to go through with it keep us informed.

The BC kit uses the stroker crank obviously, stock size rods, and custom made CP pistons. I have found the stroker pistons at FRsport.com, but I was thinking about just going straight to CP and cutting out the middle man. I was also thinking about contacting Venolia to see if they could make me some pistons. As for the whole not worth the cost thing I paid $1000 for the stroker crank and pauter rods so I think that was a good deal.

^ Well if you get a fully counter-weighted crank for $300 its a different story. Pauter rods go for $700.

More power comes from more air, more fuel, and greater components to withstand the 'combustion'.

Stroker kits are fine, but if you are looking for power, Turbochargers to date are still the best way to get you there with what you already have.

Also, Sport Compact Car magazine did a writeup in one of the last 3 magazines, cant remember what one it was, but they talk about how huge V8 engines have a lot of potential if they were to re-design and try a variable valve setup.

Strokers and crazy cams and timing along with a turbo will result horsepower if its done right. Some are just cheaper to get the same results with less work involved.

So much negativity in this thread.
I don't care what anyone says, the stroker engine will make more power than a stock sized engine, with no other changes.
Those that say that a properly set up stock sized engine would be better, well, what about a properly set up stroker engine?
I'm not going to discourage, mostly just because I want to see what its going to do.

im pretty sure
TT=twin turbo
TR= Twincharge

twin turbo = 2 turbos
Twincharge = 1 turbo and 1 supercharger (for no lag but amazing power.)

I will let everyone know when the motor is complete. Sad to say it's going to be a while cause i'm not made of money. I am also going to put it in a s13 coupe and not me s14 cause I really like my s14 the way it is.

I've taken a ride in a n/a ka with the stroker, bc stage 2 cams ported head and 12:1 cr. I've never been in or driven a car with only bc cams header and 3in exhause but I hear it feels like an sr20 stock.

The car felt normal, it picked up real fast and smooth, nice powe band, felt peppy; but not 3 grand good. But here's the part that made me buy the stroker for my car. (its not installed yet, not even close). We hoped onto the freeway it was pretty dense so we couldn't do much but after the interchange onto the 605 he poped it into fourth (with rev match) going about 65. Him and I both swear we felt the rears pop loose (summer tires) for 2 or 3 seconds, it felt reeeeeaaaallly nice. 2 maybe 3 grand good even. The top end is super smooth BTW revs like a champ.

Sadly he ended up with piston slap and decided to go with an RB, guess who has his bottom end  I've almost got all the toys I need to start my build.

So its not that powerful, but it broke the rear tires loose in 4th at 65?
BS.

I see no negativity in this thread. A couple people said that you get way more power for the money going turbo on a ka (true statement). No one denied the fact that he would make more power with the stroker motor, they just questioned if the hp gain would justify the cost. I'd love to see a stroker ka-t dyno chart (400-500whp)

If this guy really got a stroker crank and $700 rods for $1000 then it will probably be worth the money. If i could find a deal like that i'd try it, but for retail cost its probably not worth the money.

It definitly had more torque but like I explained I can't really judge how much power it added by itself becasue I've never driven or been in a ka powered car with stage 2 cams. My K/a only has boltons and a tune so obviously it felt way faster than my car.

Let me rephrase "broke the tires loose" to "some rear tire slippage". I wasn't implying that we layed some rubber, but you can tell if the tires come loose. The rpm climbs but the pull had a bit of lag. Not major slippage but we both felt it. I asked him if the rears slipped and he said he thought so. But he had the whole valvetrain done and high CR.

I payed more than $1000 for the stroker kit, the crank alone is 1700 from BC and it only has like 2k of break-in driving on it. Hes my friend so we neg'd a fair price, I only bought the crank, one piston was trash and the others were high cr, I feel in the mood for boost so low cr it is.

I've always wanted a stroked KA so I couldn't turn it down when I heard it was for sale. I'd regret not getting it everyday for the rest of my life lol.

Good luck going straight to CP. Manufactures dont sell to the public, if they do, they sell at LIST price.
At least going through a authorized dealer, they will discount the products cheaper than purchasing directly.

Its good you are happy with the stroker. But as soon as you take a drive in a different car you will be disappointed with it. May I ask, what all do you have done to the car?

I already tried going straight to CP they said well you give us the dimmensions and we'll give you a quote. You cant just ask for stroker psitons... BC sells the over bored pistons at 9:1 cr for $600 they even have them in stock.

I've driven other cars, geez. I've drive my neighbors z28 camero all the time, he only has like 25 grand into it lol. nitrous even. I've driven plenty of SRs been in several fast mustangs. I like the KA I'm on my 3rd one. I have the money to get a different car, or motor. But like many people here I believe the ka is surperior, why would I switch to a smaller, aluminum motor with old school valve train on a 4 cylinder. The ka is nicely built with the exception of the bad oil filter location, bad PCV location, and the studs like to get stuck in the head. I also like my 240 it's been there for me when I needed it so I owe it one. KA-FTW

I dont normally discuss my mods but I like this form, I just never post. I've got a got an s13 coupe se model, paint needs to be done, current ka is from a vert that had 30k on it (I've put on about 30).

Engine mod list:
k&n track filter, injen intake, nology wires, various custom mods (ignition coil rewire, spark plug grounding, IACV mod, etc.) pacesetter headers, wide band o2 option (too expensive for everyday use), dual electric fans with controller, tuned EM-U, fidanza flywheel, act stage 2 clutch, rebuilt tranny, ds. shop aluminum drive shaft, JDM viscous.

Also a custom 3in exhaust that I built in Pro Enginer and flowbenched. I researched it very well. It does not soung ghey, ricey, raspy or overly loud nor does it resonate in the car, I've gotten many compliments and have had cops directly behind my car not pull me over. Its not a fail exhaust like most custom jobers. Its straight through; you could stick a 2in flexible tube and touch an exhaust valve if you were motivated enough. I think thats all the mods thre might be more, and yes I installed all of these myself, the only shop I paid was fast freddys for the EM-U tune.

FYI I used to be an ford escort driver, an escort with a turbo and internals! I crashed it at GMR (mountan roads in socal) my first time going up but I had alot of fun with my pimpscort before I killed it. I built it with a walmart salary by hand with no previous knowlege of cars, and no outside help (I had a chiltons manual) when I was 16.

about that driveshaft, you like it? I have one not installed yet, i have to get an ABS Diff.

and anyone with the stroker kit is required by internet law to get a dyno graph up. Non-Turbo especially.

I still don't believe that it spun the tires at all.
Maybe slipping a busted clutch.
Or it had donuts on the rear and leaking oil on them.
I rode in a 430whp ka and it would barely spin in 4th.

Not a slipping clutch, not crappy tires. If you have money for a full n/a build you have money for a clutch and tires lol. It was a fresh build.

The drive shaft is nice, stock driveshaft makes the cars acceleration really bouncy, it jerks back and fourth everytime you get on the gass or off the gass The aliminum gets rid of that. there isn't really any performance increase but everytime I drive a 240 without one I realize how much of a difference it makes.

I will definitly post dyno results. I looked all over and found nothing when looking for dyno sheets. I really wanted to know what that stroker could do. The ride in my friends car was a good subsitute lol. butt dyno!
