dude plenty of people powder coat their valve covers, dont sandblast it off though, that is a huge pain use aircraft stripper paint remover sand it lightly (so the paint will stick and paint/ powder coat.
/ps you aren't thinking of painting the INSIDE of it are you that would just be retarded...
//also you arent thinking of doing this while on the car. take it off and just be careful with the gasket. you might need to get another on if it swells and wont go back on properly.

There are many paths to Enlightenment: but no one said they can't be taken sideways.

You will have to sand blast it for chrome as well. Any chromer should have a hot tank or sonic bath to clean all the sand out. If it makes you feel any better they have this rubber masking stuff they use for anodize; you paint it on and let it dry. It cures into a hard rubber texture but peels off easily once done

so, you couldnt mask the thing off before you sand blasted it and just not sand blast the masking? i did that way way back in highschool on my first ka and then put it in a solovent bath and a hot tank after, never got any sand or media metrial in my motor..

Ummm.... what? Why would something melt at a certain speed? How hot do you think a valve cover actually gets? If it's hot enough to melt chrome, you're really doing something wrong.johnsons63 wrote:hi guys, i just wanna ask about chroming out a valve cover. We don't condone driving that fast because it is illegal. So no one actually knows the answer to that, nor should it matter since you shouldn't attempt it anyway.

Good chrome plating shouldnt flake off, so you should be fine. However they are near chrome powders available that you wont have to worry about getting on the inside of the cover.
Like mentioned above, just use aircraft stripper and you're fine. If you want to sand blast it, just block off the port on the valve cover and put a piece of carboard over the underside of the cover.

It's the chromium rectifier or maybe the flux capacitor? LOLadamky wrote:Ummm.... what? Why would something melt at a certain speed? How hot do you think a valve cover actually gets?
