90mm piston with stock rods

Post by rtm240sx »

Would a 9.0:1 90mm piston be to much of a load on the stock pistons. Because of the larger bore? Sounds like a stupid question, but I have been wondering all week?

I think it's worth the sub 300 bucks it's going to cost for some Eagle rods for some added protection. One hiccup, and those stock rods will bite the dust at 300hp.

That was not the question, The question was could stock rods handle the larger load from a larger piston such as 90mm

just build the bottom end. you wont regret it. dont half @ss the build and have to tear it open again down the road because you want 500hp. do it right the first time. measure twice cut once.

i don't see why not. im getting wisecos also but i getting rods cause im going 400whp.

i mean why you going to bore it over if dosn't need it. your gunna have to have the block checked
before you bore to make your gunna have a nice straight bore. and to also make sure
you wouldn't need another block incase its that far out of wack.

if you really don't want to buy rods don't buy pistons. just get the block honed and gap some new rings and run it like it is. cause whats really gunna piss you off it if that damn rods snaps their goes you $300 pistons. that you could have spent some where els.

If you're going through the trouble of having your block bored and you're spending the $500+ to get forged pistons, you'd be crazy not to spend the extra $200 and get the rods.

Pistons alone are $550-600 shipped, you can get piston/rod combo's on ebay for $750-800 shipped. IMO you'd be crazy not too. If your power goal are what you say, then dont even bother with pistons. It makes no sense to upgrade 1 and not the other IMO.

But to answer your original question, you'll be fine. I ran CP pistons on stock rods, as far as I know that motor is still going somewhere too and its been 5 years. This was before Eagle rods were only $200 though, only other option was $800-$1000 for rods at that time.

Where can I find eagle rods for $200?
tom550 wrote:why do you want to just get pistons?
I want to replace the weakest link which would be the pistons since the piston landings are usually the first thing to fail. Plus it comes down to money in the end I dont want to half @ss it but when I am only looking at around $1000 spending limit on just the motor its hard to determine what you to spend that money on. I already have
CometicHG .060
Arp undercut headstuds
Arp main studs
still have to buy
new oil pump
timing chain kit
gasket set

This is what exactly happens. You race a car and lose by a little and want to turn boost. But wait you can't because you know the limits of the motor. But then aggression and testosterone takes over you similar to how pu$$y makes people stupid and your stuck on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck. Now if you have listened to us, you would have a solid bottom end that would take 500hp and left the other guy saying d@mn, that is one fast ka-t. I seen it happen with an evo and a vette. Evo turned up boost and boom.

I just over boosted on my other block about a month ago and the power i felt was great. I felt my pelvis bone sink into the seat. I dropped in another motor with 7psi with a t3/t4 60-1 for now and don't feel that insane power. So now the link for $715 is gonna be my job to get by the spring and build the bottom end.

Ebay link above. $710 shipped for pistons and rods. You have to buy both to get a good deal. I needed new pistons after shipping and everything, pistons alone were almost $600, if I had got this combo the rods would have been an extra $100-150. As far as I know no one sells the rods alone for this cheap, its kinda like trying to buy 1 shoe. You have to buy a pair to get the right price.

i see them for 300-320 on ebay.

i also have two friends running stock rods on forged pistons, at 18 and 20psi. one did so b/c 5 yrs ago rods were loot, and the other spun a bearing and toasted an eagle and just put stock back in. its 300$ dude, this is silly.
