Unless he's already purchased pistons its not even $300. But even If it was $500. Its worth the piece of mind. Its like going into battle in a tank without windows, sure the tank armour can take a shell, but if a round comes through the window. you're armour is useless.

The pistons are going to resist detonation and heat but the rods below them might fold.

To give an example or what a built block can take, I over boosted my motor a few months back at the track, I did a full 3rd and 4th gear pull til I glanced at my boost gauge and realized I was hitting 35psi boost, the spark plugs literally exploded from the detonation and chunks of the no 3. plug passed over the rings and chewed up my pistons BUT the rods were perfect, I rebuilt the motor and reused the Eagle rods. If this happened with stock rods, the rods would have snapped, poked holes through the block, sent metal through my turbo and pretty much grenaded my whole setup... you can prevent all of this for $300.

do what you want man. its just one of those things since your their just might as well.

i spun a rod bearing not to long ago. well i have another crank and couple sets of oem rods and pistons. i can have the car back up and running tomorrow if i want. but im gunna have to pull it apart again to put my forged rods/pistons in for my hp goal. so i might as well just wait. since its already apart you know what i mean?

and going .40 over i really wouldn't if you don't have to, since you gunna have to pay to have it checked to see how far you will need to go if need be. so have it checked then buy your pistons.

and people here don't want to see you spend the money then just throw it away in a heart beat. i mean i have seen stock rods snap in a n/a motor so you can still only imagine the stress your gunna put then through.
