Project Frankenstein Superleggera

Post by 1993ka24det »

The project will consist of a frame like the Ariel Atom and will weigh around 900-1200 lbs.
The Uprights and Brakes will be from a Miata, A arms are custom made. The engine is most likely going to be SR20, I know why. The reason of the engine choice is because every pound counts and the differance between KA and SR is about 61 lbs. I was looking at a GTIR SR20, then use a FWD trans. The entire price of the car is $6500.

Well, best of luck. The atom works because its had a lot of engineering into it.

Look at the Tremontana or whatever its called. Its a huge failure, but in the same class. I suppose if you stick to the same geometry as a car like a Miata, You can't go wrong.

I've been thinking of doing one too. I think it would be fun. There is a lot of stuff to take into consideration though. The new arial atom has a v8 and its not quite as good as the first because of the added weight in the rear and the extra power make it to hard to drive. Good luck!

Thanks guys for the support. The suspension geometry doesnt need to be spot on, most of the custom cars ive watched being built and there A arms were horizontaly. But if I cant find the angle of the Atom's A arms, then I will copy the miatas. The coil suspension will be off a R1 bike and I will be setup in a Pushrod configuration

This isnt to dicourage anyone on there current project or/and car. this is just to show you what im looking at on a daily basis

you have cluds in the sky where you are at? strange. we usually have clouds where I live when it rains.

yes we have clouds and with 50 mph winds every day with sand storms. If it does rain, it rains mud, but usually its about 15% humidity.

the company (matrix motor werks) makes them and the cars come fully assimbled with out engines. The engine that the frame is made for is a Porsche or a EJ25 (Subi). For about $13,000.

does anyone know if you can convert a linkage type trans to a cable shift or if when you transfer the engine from a fwd to a mid engine setup. will the shift linkage be useable as tha mid engine. PS the car will be RHD since I dont have to F around with dashes or firewalls.

if you use a qr 6speed trans, it is already a cable shifted trans,

also... is everything but an engine/trans included for 13k?

gotcha

only thing needed to make the qr trans bolt on the sr20 is the p12 bellhousing.
or you could just buy a p12 trans that is imported.
but it wont be locking.
but you can use the hlsd from the qr to swap into it.

Thats what im doing for my bluebird motor in my NX.

if you want just a DE block you can get jdm imports under 500.
if you want a VE or DET your going to be around 1k-1.2k

all depends on what your going to do. NA or FI

IMO the GTIR is just bragging rights if your not going for huge HP
If you'll stay under or around 400whp a regular DET will do.

theres always a B15 or P11 trans (both 5 speeds) but they are linkage shifted.
used ones of those around 8-900. they bolt right on.
