that united flight that landed on the hudson didn't either and look what happened....flock of birds went into the engines cause it didn't have filters!.
i know a few people that don't run filters on their turbos, but to me its the peace of mind that some sort of debris is not gonna go in there and wreck a $600+++ part. with turbos spinning at 100k rpm's even smaller debris can cause damage.

yes with the aem ems you can run either maf or map, among other things.

They dont have filters because the centrifugal force moves the majority of the debris into the bypass duct.Walperstyle wrote:^lol. Where I live, we have a lot of 'dust' on our roads after the winter. All the lingering sand. So, for the sake of the turbo, I'm running a filter. But technically.... Southwest Airlines 737's don't have honking big filters on the front of their turbines, lol.
Objects have to have a very significant velocity or mass to reach the inlet for the low pressure compressor which has a much smaller aspect ratio than the duct when viewed head on....
That being said, for certain ground level tests, we do use a giant debris filter to keep junk out of the engines.
I would like to add that running open element is cool but running a CAI helps keep down IAT's. I did this and have a mesh screen at the end of my snorkel.
