Does Xcessive manifold really kill torque?

Post by BoBaCk1 »

For the people who have them or just knowledgeable on the subject. Does the xcessive intake or similar design ( Godspeed ) really kill the torque in our motors? Does it gain a good amount of horsepower. There is alot of hear say on the subject but want some real answers from the people that have them. Does it lag in lower rpms or something. Just asking because I'm debating on getting it or keeping stock manifold. I'm about to throw on a 6262 .82 a/r on my car and wondering if it's worth it to get. Thanks now lets discuss haha hopefully.

The shorter runner length is said to reduce low-end torque, yes.

Look at the dyno graphs if you can find many with an xcessive manifold

Im thinking it would be noticeable at WOT, but not as noticeable driving around town under low throttle.

Good tuning, and running good timing at low throttle will help a lot, but i have no experience with the manifold.

Lots of factors between every dyno sheet you look at. Cams, how they are degreed, size of turbo, size of IC pipes, etc.

But yes, some people have said they lost a little low end.

Search. Do some reading from myowncasualty. Though he never gave a definite answer.

Yeah I searched but no one gave a good description of how it affects regular driving feel.you know that good ole ka torque feel when going around town. Hey supa you have the Godspeed one right. How did it feel from your stock manifold. What did the ole butt dyno feel lol.

There was a guy on here years ago that had one. I actually rode in his car before and after he put the manifold on. All I know is that he could spin in second and third gear before, then couldn't at all after. He did dyno and lost like 60 ft lbs, but the dyno before he had spiked 5 psi higher than after. Either way, the power was shifted higher in rpm.

I have lost low end torque. The same happened to me above. It really did not faze me because I hated fighting for traction.

Yeah, it's definitely going to shift the power band. I wouldn't even consider it unless you're going with a good sized turbo, at least some 264 dur cams, and ~500+whp.

Ok Im putting a 6262 .82 ar and I have kelford 272's on. Well I don't want to be fighting alot of traction issues. I guess with this new setup I can't be expecting too much low end grunt. Does it require a retune. I have an Enthalpy tune and safc2. Wondering if it'll suffice for now till I go stand alone.

Does anybody have a before and after dyno? Ever since the excessive manifold came out, i have been looking for the actual FACTS about this manifold. I couldn't even get the facts from excessive... I have wanted to buy one several times, but when i wanted real, hard facts about it, i found nothing.. Therfore, i did noot buy it. I put my money into parts that have proven to make more power..

Bottom line, I will not buy that manifold until i see proof of what it does..

I only lost 5 ft/lbs of torque below 2-2200 rpm and gained horsepower and torque everywhere above that. The manifolds I have made do vary from excessive's, but the runner length is very close. Either way, I agree with schmauster920. I cant imagine your going to notice much of a difference even at WOT

To go along with my last post also....

Short answer,.... yes it will probably loose a little low end torque but unlikely to be more than a noticeable amount.

The manifold flows a higher cfm and you are typically going to need a tune even on a n/a car to maximize gains and without a tune I would imagine you would lose power. So dynoing before and after is kinda pointless without tuning.

Thanks myowncasualty I was hoping you would chime in here too. I remember reading your build thread just to see you manifolds that you made. I remember reading you gained so much but was wondering if it was just getting rid of the stock manifold or just the design of the manifold you made.but i remembered you needed a retune. I would love to get a manifold to clean up my bay a little but also to gain power. But I wonder if Enthalpy can send me a retune for it. But im probably gonna have to get a real tuning solution and get it dynoed. Thanks.

I would not mind tuning it after the manifold.. That is a given.. I mainly want it to clean up the engine bay and make routeing the oil cooler easier/cheaper..

Myown, what do you manifolds look like? Are these a production deal your doing, or are you modifying excessive manifolds? I am somwhat confused..

Look at the link I posted above. It will clean up the bay quite a bit.

I know.. I just dont want to kill my power. I am going to be runnin a gt2860 on my setup.

edit: Can you run the stock fuel rail on this manifold?

Unless you are that concerned about how clean your engine looks, don't bother with it. That turbo won't work well enough at high rpm or flow enough air to benefit from it.

myowncasualty's manifold isn't exactly the same as the excessive, but its fairly close as far as runner length and plenum volume go. Considering his results, as well as the lack of dyno charts showing before and after numbers, I don't see how you can make that claim. Unless you know something that we don't?

What I really want to see is a stock manifold and throttle body compared to a xcessive mani with Q45 throttle body dyno comparison. I can't see how it wouldn't make lots of power above 5000 rpm with lots.of boost and some decent sized cams.

Yeah I think myowncasualty was running a ko4 turbo I believe which is not a that big of a turbo. He has a pretty efficient setup making 333 hp at 9 psi.

^k27, its pretty close to a gt30

I went from 292 to 333 whp with nothing but the intake manifold and a tune. AND supposedly the correction was wrong on the second dyno, I actually made 345 but I haven't been back on a dyno to confirm

This is the manifold that was on my car for dyno testing.

Whoever had the 2860. Low end torque is what saves that Turbo, you don't want to shift it higher in the rpm range.

Re: Does Xcessive manifold really kill torque?

Post by R34SR »

To bring back a 10+ year old thread, I'm at the point im making about 400tq/400hp on my S257sxe and have heard the issues of the head lifting due to head stud washer issues after 400is tq.. I'm lazy to address the actual issue before going for more power so instead I'll be installing an intake manifold to quell the low end torque and maybe hit 500whp without worrying about head lift. It's all about peak torque and cylinder pressures so might as well move it up the powerband, feed my 272 cams and not worry about torque lifting the head.
