Precision turbo oil restrictor
Precision turbo oil restrictor
I'm about to put on my 6262 journal bearing and wondering if I'm supposed to use an oil restrictor. I see a lot of mixed answers on it. But I figured someone would chime in here on it. Thanks.

For a journal bearing turbo, most people will suggest that a oil restrictor is not needed (especially for a high-end brand name like precision).
I don't run one on my Holset HX35 turbo and have not had any problems. Many others will tell you the same thing.

precision says dont worry about a restrictor on a journal bearing unless pressures regularly pass 90psi. that was WES who said that. he also stripped my turbine blade bolt and sent me back my turbo saying it wasnt worth a rebuild - so greain of salt, might want to call yourself.

I was told that the Precision ball bearing turbos already have an oil restrictor built-in, so it's not needed. Don't know about journal bearing turbos though.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I have -4an feed line so I think I'm gonna try no restrictor . If it starts to smoke then I'll throw in my restrictor in. Just so many mixed answers on the interwebz.

What you need to do is look at your oil psi. If above recommended specs, then run a resistor.

Never thought of running a screen. I never did on my Garrett t04e. What kind do you use? I also -4an feed line that's why I ask.KYLEBRENAY wrote:I have a 6162 journal bearing and -4an with no restrictor for almost three years now with no issues. However, I do run a screen catcher right before the turbo just in case i get a particle that wants to go through.

Thanks bro I need to make some changes to it. I just put on a peakboost manifold and a precision 6262 .82 a/r. Can't wait to drive it.
