ATTN: Walbro Fuel Pump Users
So I pulled my fuel pump today because I was having some strange symptoms. Ever since I put the pump in, I would run out of gas around when the gauge read 1/4 full. That didn't bother me too much, but I have also been having strange idle problems from time to time. They have been getting worse.
Anyway, here is the culprit:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
This is the section of fuel line that comes WITH THE PUMP from walbro. It is the line that comes directly off the pump exit, on top of the pump, and leads to a hard line on the pump bracket. When I pulled it out, it was gooey, frayed, and really loose. I didn't even have to loosen the clamps to get the hose off.
Long story short, if you guys have a walbro pump in your car, you might want to check this hose. All other fuel lines inside the tank and otherwise still look good. This one was the only culprit.
Nothing bad against Walbro, as the pump works great and maybe I just got sent the wrong hose, or maybe there was a bad batch of hoses in one of the production runs.

It looks like the outside of the hose just disintegrated lol
I have had my walbro/sock filter jammed onto the bottom of the tank. It was really loud, and im sure it wouldnt have lasted all that long.. If that hose is too long, it wont let the assembly rest on the spring/leg that sits on the bottom of the tank.
Just another thing to think about when reinstalling/changing the hose.

You are correct. 30R10 is subermersible. Also just a note, you want 30R9 for the line going to your aftermarket FPR if you have one, it is also compatible with e85. Autozone carries it. Regular fuel injection hose will work everywhere else (make sure it FI hose).schmauster920 wrote:Thanks for the info!!
SUBMERSIBLE FUEL INJECTION hose is what we all need
Its not the same as regular fuel injection hose, thats why it degrades over time.

hmmm. not sure to be honest. would it matter all that much as far as this is concerned? my understanding from the previous responses here is that proper fuel line will work when submerged in both gasoline and ethanol.Super Coupe wrote:proconcept23 wrote:91 octane gasoline, not ethanol.KA-Life86 wrote:Ethanol?
Did the gas contain any Ethanol?
A lot of gas pumps here in FL use 10% or less Ethanol with regular gas.

Just thought I'd post my 2 bits, I've changed pumps 3 times over the last year chasing fuel pressure drop problems and still have the original '93 fuel lines attached to the pump that sit in the tank. There is still no evidence of line damage to the original OEM fuel line at all so hope that helps...not sure what material that posted fuel line is but I've never received any hose/line with a walbro pump.

this thread is concerning the bit of fuel line that comes WITH the walbro kit, not the stock line. had i kept my stock line, i probably would not be having this issue. i simply assumed that the line that came with the kit would work. it certainly did not.kablammyman wrote:i also used the oem fuel line with my pump. I'm not worried about it deteriorating.
