suggestion for FOR SALE section

Post by RebornS14 »

i understand that you dont want new members posting in the forsale section of this forum but i really feel like replies should be lifted because i dont see how a new member buying something from this forum should be restricted. i feel like it hurts both seller and this forum because, really its just a lose lose situation. isn't there a way to restrict posting in the forsale threads for new members able to reply to forsale threads for purchase reasons?

When I didn't had the number of post needed, I was just PM'ing the member selling the parts I wanted. It worked well!

Just PM whom ever you are trying to purchase from....I think the reasoning behind it is to keep random people from doing whatever they want on the site for every 1 honest person theres 10 people ready to screw you over. So once you have established a good rep with the site you can do as you please. I like the setup, it gives members a piece of mind that they are dealing with someone that is trusted on the site. For instance someone sells you some flat cams that when you get them the member never returns to the site and gets what they wanted and you are screwed....Just my opinion.

Reborn has a good point. No sense on not being able to post there. Starting a thread is a different story though.

thought it was complicated to restrict to just replies vs new posts which was why it has always been you just pm the person in the fs section.

have to keep in mind, it will open the spammers to all the fs threads (like the bots)

This is likely true for the current version of phpBB. However Rick has informed me that the groundwork is being laid for an upgrade to take place and this should allow for more customizable options for our new members to at least reply to threads in the For Sale section.

As far as spammers go I think this would be further covered by a new phpBB. I'm not positive but I believe there is a capability to block a range of known spam-IP ranges/countries to prevent them from visiting the forum in the first place.

Let's give Rick some encouragement. Hoorah!

Edit:

Judging by the verbiage at the bottom right of each subforum, it should be easy in its current state to do this:

Why not make it a time since join date? A 7 day "cool down" period from the day you join to prevent people from becoming members solely to sell things.

Precisely what it going to happen soon. Newly registered peeps will automatically be added to a usergroup which has some 'bumpers' so they dont hurt themselves.

WTB section

Post by ReEducationThruLabor »

What about easing up on WTB section requirements? I know why FOR SALE needs certain guidelines, but I see the opportunity for spam/scams as being significantly lower in WTB. I feel newER members would definitely be looking for parts and able to contribute to the classifieds and maybe even establish contacts/relationships in the process.Just my .02

Bump this, really worried about this forum dying, how about making the for sale visible to the unregistered, so they at least know it exists.. Or if anyone has any other suggestions,,,

And put a big bright sticky saying "before you post" in the chat section to stop or reduce the amounts of first post asking about dream setups..

Irritating to look at, and it's crowding the searches with threads with no feedback or use

I 2nd that idea. Before I registered, and even after I have it would be a pain signing in on mobile devices just to see the classifieds. Mostly just because I'm lazy and still use the seemingly endless random password they originally give to you. Another thought is that there are nowhere near enough active posters on this site. I don't think it's dying out, just lots of lurkers. But on the other hand there are few people who do reply, yet when they do its almost always well thought out accurate advice. I've learned more here from supakat and a few other old schoolers than I have in years of NASIOC or zilvia.
