Rebuild my KA with stock internals or wait and build it?

Post by creamypies »

So I have a ka which I bought with a trubo kit on, about a week after the car blew a timing chain guide and I disassembled the motor because I saw the car was over boosting (about 13-14 psi on stock pistons) and I thought it was rod knock, then when I get into the engine there isnt anything off, pistons look really worn out, but nothing other than that. Should I rebuild my KA cheap, then have the crank grinded, the cylinders measured and possibly bored and honed, then rebuild the engine off some ebay kit that I can pick up for cheap with pistons. anyways what would you do ?

tl:dr my car blew up, I have no idea why. trying to rebuild on stock internals (so I can drive the damn thing soon) or should I just wait to put forged pistons and rods ? just tryin to drift hahah

Thank you so much guiesss

here are my stuggles :text-link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzj9YDVUWz0

PLEASE HELP

I tried looking all over, are there any good rebuild kits or do I need to part everything together myself

I think what I might be able to do is rebuild it using the same cast pistons and run it until it blows again? but would I have to hone the cylinders to rebuild it ?

I would say you should wait and build it up! time is sensitive though, obviously.

What turbo are you going to run and how much power do you want to make out of it? If it's nothing too crazy, a stock rebuild will suffice.

Build whatever tf you want. Its really going to depend on you and your goals/budget.

I built a stock bottom with a built head(bc 272 cams, titanium retainers yada yada) running billet 6765 divided t4 turbo, dual 44 wgs etc etc. Basically everything for 800hp, only aiming for 450hp while a forged bottom end is assembled.

I'm not scared to push the stock bottom end, and I'm just trying to have fun!
Billet PTE 6765 divided T4, Nismotronic, Speed density, Coil on plug conversion.

Im running a t28 with the goals around 300hp.

also my cylinder walls have some rust marks in them. http://imgur.com/tJ23FON,CxXqw0Z do I need a bore, or can I get away with honeing it myself with my harbor freight tool ?

Stock internals are good to about 300 or so HP.
Just change the head studs and use ARPs, and make sure your tune is GOOD or kaboom.

Go bottom mount t2 manifold and turbo and that's enough.

People tend to go crazy for top mount setups, for the numbers, like I did, but I hated the damn lag.
I'm on bottom mount manifold with GTX turbo and it's fun fun fun.
Im on a built motor with Felpro HG and All is good!
