Turbine housings question

Post by 96_240_KA »

So I've been looking at buying a GTX3576R for my new build. Originally I was going to go with a standard T3 BEP .70A/R Holset Super 40, however since last year I got my hands on a Full-Race divided T3 thanks to my dad. So I'm looking at a T3 .82A/R divided turbine housings would that be somewhat equivalent? I did a search on the web a lot of results came from EvolutionM and Honda-Tech, no one could agree on what info was true and I got tired of reading the arguments, attacks, etc. One person said a divided T3 in a ~1.00A/R is similar to a .82A/R single/undivided housing. I just need a straight answer. I know that KA-T generally has better info and less arguing so hopefully this hasn't been answered too many times. I have searched but there seem to just be vague references.

This is the best info I could fine. He references an SAE paper but no link.

Yep, that's probably not far off. I've seen the 1.00 to ~.80 comparison made several times before, if that helps.

.82 divided would be similar to a .63 single.
I wouldn't go bigger than .82 unless you're revving to 8000.

So an .82 divided housing would match well to a GTX3576R? Alright, yeah not really planning on making a 8k capable motor, however I am looking to be able to on the right fuel (corn) get near its max power. From what I've read ~550hp even if it's just on rare occasion. Most likely be looking to make ~450 - 475 at the wheels if I can. 16 - 20 lbs of boost, I'm not trying to make a record breaker just something fun to drive. I'm going to try really hard to make an A/C capable, fairly realiable daily driver.

I used to be only go .63 T3 turbine housing on an SC61 turbo many years ago. Then my fabricator talked me in to a Garrett 67mm T4 twin scroll twin gate setup. I read alot of dyno graphs and decided to go for it. I have never look back ever since. My new turbo since I went E85 is the new precision 67mm with 1 A/R turbine Twin scroll. I honestly have only lost 2-3 hundred RPm with HUGE power gains everywhere because of the bigger turbine housing. Not to mention because of less back pressure you can run more boost safely even on pump gas. That's just my real world 2 cent experience if it helps.
