another subframe thread

Post by ka240de »

Hello just looking for some compiled opinions on my subframe swap and tire size options not very good with tire talk yet..

My car has a 91 hicas s13 subframe .

I have an s13 non hicas subframe, and a guy wanting to sell me an s14 subframe for 300$.
What i was thinking not only save money but that aside the shorter wheelbase should let me get a slightly wider tire in there wouldnt it ? I plan on using a 26 inch street friendly radial of some sort on refinnished stock rims Im going for a sleeper look and dont want to draw attention.
Whats the fattest tire to fit stock rims?

The s14 subframe requires some "offset" bushings that SPL parts sells and you will need to swap the s14 differential cover to your s13 differential; s14 camber arms are also recommended since the s14 subframe is wider.

If you already have an s13 non-hicas subframe though, why not just put that on for now?

Depends on what you want to do with the car. Personally I like the S14 subframe for the better suspension geometry due to the change in pick-up points. But you also have to weigh in price/performance increase as well. Not only is the subframe gunna cost you money, but the offset bushings to mount it in a s14 (SPL or GkTech), the S14 camber arms are also needed, as well as any misc stuff you break/replace along the way.

As for fitting a wider tire, the 10mm wider track isn't going to make THAT big of a difference either way unless this is a track dedicated car, which even then I don't think your allowed to do subframe swaps etc in most classes.

An S14 subframe for $300 is a ridiculous price just fyi. Had picked up mine with 0 rust and brand new bushings for $100
