read a lot of things. what really works?

Post by cham » Fri Jul 18, 2014 8:24 pm

Well I go from boosting fast and hard to slow spooling like the clutch is slipping. The darn turbo bolts keep backing out some about every 3 days. I've read several optons and directed to several special fastener websites. What are the ka-t people doing to solve this? Home Depot automotive?????

I've used grade 8 lock washers. All the lock washers I've used end up flat

Internal tooth lock washers

You need something that digs into the material. These do the trick. My local Ace hardware store has them in stock. Should be easy to find and are inexpensive

^Yep, those should work fine for you. Something you might want to try if you want something fancy are Nord Lock washers - it also looks like there are knock-offs on Amazon now for about half the cost as the real ones.

.

A friend and I used copped locking head nuts on his SR and they seemed to do the trick.

Not sure what size you'd be looking for, but here's a link to what I'm talking about:

I had the same prob, the nuts to hold on the down pipe and the ones to bolt it to mani kept backing off; are these the ones you're talking about?!

Mine are just spot welded on, haven't loosened since they were installed, hah.

I guess my 1st mistake is using the bolts that came with the manifold. I need to be using studs.

Like cleantune said:

Use those copper locking nuts - they have a deformed thread that keeps them from backing out. AND use the correct studs instead of bolts.
I bought my stuff from here and it's all top notch:

Those are cool. Thanks for posting the link. My plan was to do what you did... spot welds on each one. These might be a better option though.
