Basically it comes down to the plate on the bottom being cardboard and not metal. I dont know if our filters in specific are designed like this, or if we would have any issues with it breaking down.. I'd imagine every motor would be different.
Has anyone cut one open that looked questionable? I would hate the filter itself to cause issues, not to mention letting things through.

Those are for the VQ's. We don't use their filters, different supplier. From what I've read in past threads is that the original OEM NIssan KA24/VG30E filters were really great filters. The updated 15208-55Y00 are still good filters, but not as well made as the original. Last time I inspected the inside of my 55Y00 it was held together as well as my PureOne.
Edit: In fact I found a thread http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/forums/ub ... er=2007695

I personally like the Mobile 1 / K&N oil filters. They are manufactured by the same company. When I changed to this filter my oil pressure dropped. This means less restriction, more flow bearings live longer life.

If I can't get access to a WIX filter, I grab a Mobil1 or Bosch filter.
Re: OEM Nissan Oil Filters Junk?
This I did not know, I've always ran an OEM filter and never had a problem with them but then again with what you just said I may end up trying one of those next time. Thanks!duncan351 wrote:I personally like the Mobile 1 / K&N oil filters. They are manufactured by the same company. When I changed to this filter my oil pressure dropped. Re: OEM Nissan Oil Filters Junk?
Hey guys I know this is an old thread but have to retract a statement I made on the Mobile one oil filters. After further evaluation of the location of my oil pressure sensor location I completely misinterpreted. The oil pressure drop was actually due to the filter being very restrictive. The oil sender turns out to be after the filter and not before. I have no idea why I thought it was before but I took the oil filter housing off to make sure and I could see that its after the filter and not before. So that means the filter element is too restrictive. I would not recommend this filter due to the pressure drop which is actually a restriction not better flowing. I'm looking to try the Purolator One PL20252. I chose this filter due to the oil bypass pressure and its filter media if physically bigger promoting better flow.

Duncan I used to think the sensor was before also... I don't know if it was an FSM diagram or just people misinforming that using that spot for an oil feed was bad due to unfiltered oil.
