What valvetrain is everyone using?

Post by Bubba »

Almost finished piecing together my build and was just curious what valvetrain everyone was using these days.

I remember Matt Powers was using B18 valve springs at one time and have heard that CA18 and VG30's use the same spring as the KA does but I'm curious what everyone is actually using and having good luck with in their builds.

I don't plan on revving the piss out of my engine so I've considered just getting new OEM valve springs to go into the head after I bring it to the machine shop and have it run through by my machinist, but at this point I'm still open to other options since I'm hoping that this engine will last a long time.

Yes I'm aware that BC, Supertech, Manley, Ferrea, and maybe one or two more companies make kits for us but I'm looking to see who is using what to be exact. Supertech offers 3 different spring options also so I'm not sure which one to pick even if I did choose them.

I just upgraded to all BC valves/guides/springs/retainers. I priced out new OEM stuff and it wasn't all that much more to upgrade to BC. Figured if I had to pay a shop to have the old guides pressed out and new ones pressed in, I might as well just have them put the new parts in.
Wiseco/Eagle, JWT S1 cams, BC valve springs, PT5857, ID1700 injectors, SR20DET ECU w/ Nismotronic, COP conversion with LS ignition coils, etc, etc...

I guess I'm gonna put the +$400 towards an ATI Super Damper for the time being since I'm going to be doing startup, break-in, and the first tune with a 240/248 setup.

I need to get this build finished already but I know rushing things won't do me any good.
