Starting problems
As the title states, my car won't start. I just finished my turbo install and attempted to start the car but it won't. It sounds like it's about to, but just won't fire up.
I checked the plug wires, they're in fine.
Fuel pump replaced, but started just fine afterwards.
Injectors were replaced with 555cc from DW. I didn't try to start it after this point.
Distributor wasn't touched.
ECU was replaced with an Enthalpy tuned ECU, could this be the problem? What would the symptoms of a bad ECU be?
Would a vacuum leak cause the car not to start? I didn't think it would, so.....
Car sat for nearly 2 months with low fuel, I thought this was a problem, so I put in another gallon of fuel, but same results.
I'm going to continue searching tonight, but thought I would ask for some help while I'm at school all day..
Thanks!

Make sure you have fuel pressure. Check to see if the pump turns on (whines) when you turn the key to 'on'. Put a long screwdriver up to the metal part of an injector and the other end to your temple, near your ear. When you start the car, you will hear the clicking of the injector. Do this for each injector.

Okay, I believe I have too much fuel. I didn't try the screwdriver trick, but after trying to start it, i took the plugs out and they were drenched in fuel.
How do I resolve this? I didn't think I would need an aftermarket FPR. Can I adjust the stock fpr?
My (fuel/ignition) set up:
555cc DW injectors
Enthalpy ECU
Walbro fuel pump
NGK BKR7E plugs
Z32 TT fuel filter
Any more input?
Thanks guys!!

well your plugs are drenched because you are trying to start your car and it is not firing. In all honesty it sounds like it could be timing related. I would double check your distributor postitioning, plug wire order, and check to see if you are getting spark. other than that you should do a compression check.

The plug wires are in correctly (first thing I checked).
I'll check to see if I'm getting spark but not sure why I wouldn't.
I don't think my compression is bad since the car has only 27k miles on it and it ran perfectly before I started this project.
Would I still need to check the distributor if I didn't touch it during the install?
If I gapped my plugs a bit too low (~.033) would that have anything to do with not starting?

Plugs at .033 definitely aren't the problem. Your base timing should be fine too if you didn't touch the distributor.
Did you do any wiring during the install (besides the fuel pump)? If so, double check it and make sure all the electrical connectors are plugged in. Are you running a stock MAF?
Did you install new o-rings with the injectors?

I did wire in new gauges- AEM Truboost, oil pressure and wideband. Those are working as far as I know (since I can't start it up and get correct readings).
If any of these gauges were wired incorrectly, would that cause it not to start?
New O-rings were installed with the injectors.
I'm using a Z32 MAF (N62).
Any other suggestions?
Thanks!

sounds like the same problem im having....does your fuel pump turn on? like you can hear it "whine"? it started after installing some after market gauge. fuel pump doesnt turn on. i was thinking if my gauges were installed would it cause my car not to start too?crap, after my car running very great for 2 days after my ka-t install it stopped after my fuel pump installation and a gauge installation....MyRedS14 wrote:I did wire in new gauges- AEM Truboost, oil pressure and wideband. My fuel pump definately turns on. I didn't install a fuel pressure gauge, though, so my problem is a little different.
Have you checked the pressure sender for the gauge? Perhaps you installed it backwards? I'm not exactly sure how the fuel pressure sender works. I'm assuming it has something to do with the sender though. Good luck with it!

This might sound really dumb but after I did my KA-T install, my car was doing the exact same thing. One of my buds took my bov recirc hose off while I was cranking and said that it wasnt pulling any air. Then another friend looked at me like I was stupid and asked if I had taken the plastic cap off of the intercooler inlet/outlet.
I had forgotten to take one of the caps off and it wasnt getting any air

Definately not the problem here... thanks though...
BUMP for more help please!!!
UPDATE:
Today I changed the plugs since the other ones got all fouled up. However, the car won't start with the fuse in, but still starts and runs really bad when the fuse is out.I was able to move the car (not drive it) and it stayed running while the fuse was out. WTF?
I understand that the following can cause bad idle:
-mis-wiring of the MAFS or a bad MAFS
-O2 sensor not in yet
but what would allow the car to run for atleast 1 minute without a fuel pump fuse?

Bump to the top!
Injectors have been checked, O-rings are visually perfect.
What else can cause this?
Pretty much I need to know what would cause the car to run without the fuse in. I understand that most likely it would be a leaky injector, but the O-rings are not visibly torn.
Please folks, I can't handle this anymore

Fuse not blown. In fact, the fuse is fine because when I put it back in while the car is running, the car dies nearly immediately.
Can the fuel pump be flowing too much?

Fuel pump fuse.
It doesn't die after 30 seconds. It continues enough to pull the car in and out of a garage and into a parking space in a parking lot.

I'm using a z32 maf. IT turned out to be timing 1 tooth off.. BUT now I'm running into a stalling issue when coming to a stop or just moving the car. It still seems to flood the motor because I have issues starting when it dies at times. I've been told it was TPS. Any ideas?
Thanks for the heads up.

sorry to dig this thread up... BUT THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT I'M DEALING WITH.... flooded/soaked spark plugs, crazy rough idle, i just rechecked all of my Orings, and they're not ripped, and i did run my car for a long time without the fuel pump fuse,
MyRedS14: what did you do finally to fix the problem?! maf wire problem?!
i followed the wire diagram on JWT for z32 maf to other Nissan cars, the B wire on the Maf to the Black/white strip C/D to ground: one to the ground wire, the other to the chassis, E to the White wire on the stock maf harness on a Ka24de...
i also got new fuel pump, z32 fuel filter, DW 550 injectors, ecu tune, z32 maf, all at the same time.. am i doing something wrong?! *scratches head*

MAF wiring problem.
This is how I ended up wiring it and it has worked fine since:
A B C D E F
X Wh B Or B/Wh X
This is the view from the harness side. Everything is color matched, except the orange wire goes to chassis ground.
If reading the wiring diagram for the S14 maf, White is to the ECU(0-5V), Black is ECU ground, Orange is chassis ground, Black/White is power (12V).
I hope this helps you out.

Yes, the JWT diagram can be sort of confusing and has led many people to have this same problem.wntrcoatblu240 wrote:i followed the wire diagram on JWT for z32 maf to other Nissan cars, the B wire on the Maf to the Black/white strip C/D to ground: one to the ground wire, the other to the chassis, E to the White wire on the stock maf harness on a Ka24de....
The only thing I can suggest is that you add one thing at a time and then check to make sure you installed it right. For instance, install the fuel pump and then start the car to verify it was done properly. Then, do the injectors and start the car. Doing this allows for easier troubleshooting and less headache. Good luck!wntrcoatblu240 wrote: i also got new fuel pump, z32 fuel filter, DW 550 injectors, ecu tune, z32 maf, all at the same time.. am i doing something wrong?! *scratches head*
