BECK ARNLEY or felpro?

Post by R34SR »

So ive decided to start stocking up parts for an OEM rebuild of my engine ( front seal leaks a tad oil, she idles a bit high but gets 180psi across all cylinders ) so hardly in need of a rebuild but its about 110k miles and thats the kinda guy i am...a bit anal.

I only buy stuff when on sale and so far i bought some beck arnely pistons on clearance for $19 a piece. New Beck Arnley TPS sensor for $27, Coolant temp sensor for $12 and dayco belts for $5 a pop. Now i have the opportunity to get a beck arnley head gasket kit ( full head ) for $31 vs the $75 for a felpro. I know beck stuff is really good oem parts and this kit actually costs $125 normally. What do you guys think? should i jump on this sale or is felpro stuff really that much better and necessary for an oem rebuild?

Thanks.

i wouldnt say felpro is necessary for a rebuild, only reason people use felpro is that alot of people use them without any problems. i dont use felpro

Well im not a stingy guy im glad to share... www.rockauto.com
go through the catalog and i think you can still find the pistons for $19.08 a piece. The TPS for $27 etc....there are alot of manufacturer closeout deals if you look every now and then. but usually very limited stock...i think there are 9 pistons left ( standard size only )so act fast. Man mabe ill have to wait till they have a sale on felpro since i do plan on boosting this motor in a few years to come after the rebuild.

Basicly one bolt hole on the headgasket, and the valve cover gaskets.

The head gasket could be cut, but your not gonna be able to use the valve cover gaskets.

I have used HG from several companys and they all seem to be the same. I think there is one company that makes them for all the others.

I have not used the BA, but I have seen some other BA parts, i.e. TPS and I was not happy with it. I had a customer come in with one only to find out it was bad, so, I pulled it off and put on a used one. The car is still running the used one.

I sell a gaskets made by a company named Stone and I have never had any problems. I have several customers running around, boosted, with Stone HG.

I have compaired the Stone, side by side with a Felpro and I could not tell any differance.

I may purchase a stone gasket set here soon. I need to assemble a stock engine on the cheap just so I have a second car to drive.

Good to know they hold up.

Yea, you darn ka people are lucky sometimes! I couldnt even think of a hg that cheap for my engine that makes way less power than that.
