Question for a bigger turbo guys

Post by Berserker »

So I just put on precision 6262 its big and laggy. So I wondering, running it at 27 lb, but in first gear I can only get it to get up 21lb second gear 24lb, then rest gears are fine ( I think) So should I be able to build up 27 psi in 1st and 2nd gear as well?

Maybe if you're going up a mountain with 3 fat chicks in the trunk.

when i was runing the 18cm2 housing on my turbo, i coudlnt build over 14 psi in first, and 18 in 2nd and the rest were fine, it is just the natture of the beast, if you got a smaller ar exhaust housing you could likley spool sooner, but loose out some on top..

what size exhasut housing are you running

I pegged 30psi with my 3076R in first, so I don't know what you're talking about ... lol

I would say you're not doing too bad. Much more than that, tires are breaking loose and it's a mess to keep in a straight line. Put that much power down in 1st and 2nd, and you start breaking trans/diffs/axles.

But I agree with that's said above, try to find a smaller housing if you're worried about it. But prepare to lose some top end.

I find it hard to believe you can maintain traction in first at over 20psi. Hell even the stock block 1/4 mile record holder leaves at 5psi on slicks.

eazye2000 you had a t2 exhaust housing..that's not a fair comparison lol.

you could also try doing somthing like what i will be doing and put an exhasut cutout on your down pipe, that should help some...

im going to do it kinda getto though, ill be using some 3"vbands with a plate welded accross one, so i have to un bolt it to open it, but my downpipe is verry easy to get to and it will be roughly 12inches down strem from the outlet of the turbine housing, this should hopefully help spool some

Yeah I want to fully changed my exhaust, I go a resonator or w/e its called midway through my exhaust, I want to put a straight pipe, but then its gonna be loud and obnoxious lol

that is were the benifits of a cuttout really start to present themselves, i am super cheap so i am going to make a block of vband cutout i have to get out of the car to remove, but if you had a spare 150$ or so, you could get a electric cutout and just control it from your dash, beware though, i HAVE read that it will cause changes in your afr and also cause changes in the amount of boost your running, just a heads up, the frist few pulls you do keep a close eye on the wideband and boost gauge

cutout

Post by slidewayzagain »

On most exhaust it is wise to have at least 2 feet of piping before running open exhaust.
Less distance can result in cool air backflowing with less then desired results.
Can't rem the specifics but thats what we have exp on our off road vehicles.

If the lack of low gear spooling really bothers you, you could always add a small shot of nitrous.

Lol nice, I think got it to spool up a bit faster now, but really don't want to abuse it in low gear, cus I might break something. Most likely the trans haha. Negative on NOS lol
