recommend me a turbo please

Post by ATL240 »

I just got done rebuilding my KA with forged internals and finally broke it in. JE pistons(+20 over bore), K1 rods, ARP rod, main, and head bolts, with a felpro head gasket.

Now its time for a turbo! I'm aiming for around 400 HP, it's my DD so I don't want to hit boost till around 3500+ rpms. So I was thinking about just going with the very popular t3/t4 50 trim and while searching I saw that the t3 60-1, AKA super 60, was cheaper. I did a bit of research on it a and some say it has really bad lag others say it doesn't. I've never boosted a car so i'm having a hard time choosing, i'm just looking for some opinions on what to get. Let me no what you suggest please!

thanks,
Alex

i currently have a T3/T04E .60 ar compressor .63 ar turbine, turbo should spool ~3500rpm at latest and will support 400hp, for sale for $550, 0 miles on rebuild.

also the super 60 and the t3/60-1 are 2 different turbos, the super 60 is a straight T3 turbo, the T3/60-1 is a T3/T04S(bigger compressor housing than a T3/T04E)

Read, read, read. Read Maximum Boost. I hate when people say recommend something for me then you do and they hate it. Then they downplay you saying you don't know sh1t but there the ones asking for help. f*cking annoying.

For street and DD, t3/t04 garret 50 trim is the way to go. I had it and I loved it. Boost will not drop off at higher rpms, go with the .63 a/r they have I believe. Get it tuned for 20 lb and you will have 400 whp.

ive got a t3/t4 50trim with the .58ar and i hit 14psi by 3500 rpms. I may be able to spool it a little faster if i fix a few small leaks. made 300hp at 12psi. and it should be able to make over 400hp.

I've got a Turbonetics 60 trim, T3/T4. Boosting 15psi right now my guess ~320-340hp, no traction with stock 195s and open diff so I can't really tell you for sure. I get positive pressure before probably 2.5krpm and full boost by 3.5-3.7k.

By 3.5k rpm's I was at 15 lb with the 63 a/r then it creeped up to 17
You can check out my dyno graph here : viewtopic.php?t=43799&highlight=
at 17 lb I went to the track and ran 12.4 @ 118 Then I kicked up the boost to 20-21 lb, But I was stock block with E-85.

Good choice on specs but I have read that some PT units wears bearing fast. Just do a quick google search to see how long people have been using them and results.

I just spoke with RSP and they told me they would give me a turbonetics t3/t4 60 trim 63 A/R for $679. With a 1 year warranty, not bad huh?

I traded my turbo for some fubar'd 18 inch rims so I don't know. But my turbo is a "real" hybrid. Garrett 60 trim front with t-netics .63 stage 3 wheel. Is that with shipping? Do a google search for shopping and see if you can find something cheaper from a reputable seller with the same warranty. If not, buy it from them.

Yeah $679 with shipping and tax. I cant't find a better price for it. The warranty is from turbonetics themselves, they are the only ones that I have ever heard of that give a no questions asked warranty on a turbo/all there products.
