Yet ANOTHER, ARP head stud question.
I think I have it down how I'm going to torque my head studs, but what about the actual bolts to the block? Not the nut that torques the head down, but rod that is threaded on the block. Is this rod torqued down, or do I simply thread it until it's tight enough, hand tight, or is there a spec for this as well? I SWEAR I've searched everywhere. KAT, Zilvia, NICO, Google. All I get is the head bolt torque spec. Thanks in advance.
Hand tight then a 1/4 turn. That is what I did for mains and head.

Yep, just hand tight for me. Since they bottom out in the block you don't want to over-tighten

Hand tight. Just make sure to use a tap to chase the threads, and then blow them out with compressed air before installation.

IIRC the instructions that came with my ARP hardware said (like others above) to only hand tighten. If the extra quarter turn more was somewhat easily done, you'll be fine. I wouldnt worry about it. Look at supa, he mentioned that he did the extra quarter turn and his engine is doing quite fine lol..bigdreams05 wrote:Wait, nooooooo. I applied the quarter turn last night. I havnt started the car yet. Can I still loosen them and not do any damage?
Also +1 for chasing threads before installing. Make sure you use bolt/torque grease that came with the hardware to ensure accurate torque readings.

Do it!
I'm almost positive that mine specifically stated to install only hand tight. Where did you get this spec?keytops wrote:The spec is 15 ftlbs I just installed several sets. Its not like your streaching the bolt or anything, they just wanted it mated.

+1 on hand tight ...just put a set in at work this week. Instructions say do not torque only hand snug . I have tightened them down in the past and it tends to make them a little difficult to align all of the studs in the holes when setting the head on , but did not cause any other problems.

Just got out my ARP box and took a pic of the instructions. Big, bold letters in the middle say "HAND TIGHT ONLY".

Looking into it. I had a buddy getting the torque specs while I did the torquing. That means I went looking for my 3/8 drive allen for nothing. I thought it might have been an ARP200 difference but it says hand tight here too.

I just got a text from him he said that he was told by a reputable source that 15ft./lbs should be used if the threads weren't chased to make sure the bolt was at the bottom and not caught on a tight spot. Makes sense but not what ARP specs. I apologise for the misinformation. Also we did clean the bolt holes with pipe cleaners and solvent we just didn't have the tap handy we dont normally skimp on that sort of thing.

Re: Yet ANOTHER, ARP head stud question.
Does anyone know what torque the arp2000 rod bolts take? or is it torque + angle? thanks in advance.

@adam thanks, just clarifying, 70ftlbs for head bolts on the ka? thought it was more for some reason.adamky wrote:http://arpinstructions.com/instructions/202-4304.pdf
what I meant to ask, its the arp rod bolts..
Re: Yet ANOTHER, ARP head stud question.
Yes, 70 ft/lbs for the ARP2000 head bolts.
Sorry, I misread your last reply. Does ARP make the rod bolts in ARP2000 material?

Re: Yet ANOTHER, ARP head stud question.
Sorry on the late reply, and no worries, I wasn't 100% on the head bolts, and yes as far as ARP2000's on rod bolts.adamky wrote:Yes, 70 ft/lbs for the ARP2000 head bolts.

Question as far as the Head bolts, for proper clamping on the head to block with a metal headgasket, after you have set your torque to 70lbs, I've heard, you would have to loosen and torque again the head bolts after "x" amount of miles for the mls seal properly, Is this information accurate?
