What oil pumps/lower timing covers do you guys use?

Post by NeverSatisfied » Thu Mar 29, 2012 9:59 am

Having a difficult time finding a decent deal on a lower timing cover for a 93 240. All im seeming to find is the infamous topline pumps or oem for s14 for over 300.00 which is rediculous. My old pump still works fine but id like a new pump for a motor build im working on. Was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I searched and googled and came up with nothing so i apologize if this has been covered before.

I did on oil pump rebuild using the oem components from courtesy parts. I got the two gears, the spring and ball with shims, and a front main seal.

If you need a whole new cover for decking with the block then only go oem. I've had two aftermarket and neither have worked. Again courtesy parts is where I'd order from.

Ive heard nothing but horror stories about all kinds of topline parts, especially oil pumps. Dealer here wants 480.00 which is rediculous. Ill check out the rebuild kit, but was hoping to not have to do that. Ill look up west covia nissan too.

hopefully I wont have any problems but I have run several of them on lots of differant applications with success but it definitely is best to use a factory one but at the time I got mine it was not an option .

I called west covina nissan and they want 475.50. Thats the dealer you got yours through for 195 or a different one? Do you happen to have a phone number?

Ive used the generic DNJ Engine Components pump w/front cover that rockauto.com sells for $220. No issues on a stock motor for about 20k miles.

Another option (if you're anal like me) is getting the oil pump gears WPC treated. I ended up buying a new oem front cover from a member here and sent in the gears along with my internals. IIRC, I think the fellas that did the +700hp KA build in Turbo Mag did it as well. Its a little over kill, but it works for me.

bought the oem from a nissan dealer online. 300$ was an easy price to swallow when it meant no more broken blocks due to failed oil pump

i used the stock rebuild kit and the FSM and checked all clearances on the front cover to make sure they were still all in spec before rebuilding it...

Found what I was looking for. OEM pump from dealer for 107.00 plus shipping. :) Its surprising how difficult it is to find a decent deal on such a common part. Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate it.

I was under the impression that the timing cover side of the oil pump (aluminum) wears first, not the steel gears.

If this is the case, changing the gears in the oil pump will not change anything. This is why most people change for a new cover too

Im pretty sure they are, difference being that 10mm bolt kinda behind the distributor that everyone forgets.

I am still not sure with the interchange but I noticed frsport has a new OEM S14 timing cover for 250 on ebay

UPDATE: apparently the dealership quoted me wrong price, the 107.00 was for sohc (how they figured out sohc motor out of a 93, IDK) but the actual price is 354.00 if you order through their website www.oepartsmegastore.com . I bit the bullet and ordered it this morning.
