Oil getting dirty relatively fast.

Post by TrackStarGT »

I know this sounds like a silly newb question but, I have never changed oil in a car so much as I have in my high performance 240, ha. In doing so, I have found that the oil gets dirty really fast. For instance, after a short break in period of 100+- miles, the oil was not clear at all, it looked like it had 1000 miles on the oil. this is after a brand new filter, no carbon or old oil anywhere in the motor, basically a fresh motor. Is this normal? I did recently pull the valve cover off and the head looked nice and clean and the puddles of oil in valleys and crevices looked not that bad but definitely dirty, this is after 500+- miles. Normal or not?

Since it is a new motor, rings probably still need to seat fully.

As long as no other issues, I feel you are fine. I recall mine getting dirty quick but after about 3k miles, it started to last longer.

There is a company you can send a sample of the oil to have it analysed and tell you exactly what's in it.

That way you'll know what's breaking down.
