Cadillac CTS-V Big Brake Conversion

Post by R34SR »

Hey guys,
Im always lurking on the forums looking for new, cheap 240 products and recently came across this :

http://www.ctsvbrakeswap.com/nissan/

This guy is making a one piece billet aluminum adapter to bolt on enormous 4 piston brembos from a 04-07 cadillac cts-v in conjunction with 350z 12.75" track rotors. He also makes an adaptor to bolt the 6 piston brembos with 14" 370Z rotors. ( overkill, yes, but looks very nice )

OK so this is the part where you cheap bastards start to say :

1. Why do you need more than z32 stopping power?
2. Why pay more?
3. This is going to be expensive...etc.

Im doing it mainly because im upgrading to 18"s allaround and my brake wheel setup looks odd/small + i always wanted brembos on the front of my car. It just gives it this look that ive always loved on newer cars.

Each caliper BRAND NEW from amazon.com is about $100 - $111 shipped, No nasty used calipers that need to be rebuilt....all brand new parts made by brembo....dont believe me? i already ordered my set and have it waiting to be installed. I dont know why the price is so low, but get them while you can.

( Dont mind the picture, its the right part number )

I used rockauto to source 2 warehouse buyout slotted track rotors for $23 a piece along with STOCK stoptech Stainless steel brake lines for $40

So you have the new brembo calipers L+R and the pins and hardware for $241 from amazon
Rotors from rock on sale for $23 a piece + SS lines = $86
Powerstop Z16 pads = $40
Bracket Adapter = $165 shipped

TOTAL FRONT BRAKE SWAP = $532

( These calipers use the STOCK 240sx banjo bolt brake lines, i had to buy new ones because i have z32 conversion lines )

Now why would you buy used z32 calipers to rebuild when you can go this route for a little more?

The largest draw backs here are weight, the rotors each weigh in at 23lbs.....as much as my wheel.
And you need 18" wheels from what research i have done. I dont mind because it a combination of function/form/looks for me.

I like these brackets quite a bit because they actually utilize one bolt that goes straight through the caliper and original hub bolt hole, which gives me peace of mind in terms of strength.

Mazworx also makes an adapter but i thought the material may be thin and not sure if repeated heat would warp it, im no engineer but i just preferred to go with the thicker billet aluminum piece. My other reason was they use evo rotors, which from my research tend to be a tad more expensive...i got the killer deal on 350z track rotors so i went that route.

that said, my current z32 30mm calipers will be for sale soon :-)
