What Boost gauge do you use and why?

Post by Adrenalin »

Hey looking to replace my autometer super light 2" boost/vac gauge (20psi) as it sucks.
Not sure if its typical of the brand or type but it sticks and has a lumpy movement.

I was looking at maybe the turbosmart, innovate G3 boost or a good old VDO 25PSI boost vac.

Any comments or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

i used the ultralite 2 autometer 30psi gauge, worked well for me. sounds like you are trying to get away from autometer though.

would love me a defi boost gauge when i can use a boost gauge again. They are just beautiful gauges

Im sure autometer make some good products but my gauge is not one of them LOL.

I've seen videos and read some info that argue electronic gauges are not as quick or accurate as mechanical gauges. That said peak hold features that the stepper motor gauges can provide are pretty handy.

I like my mechanical Sunpro CP8213. They are super cheap right now if you look at the right websites (summit.)

I'm considering Speedhut as well since I plan on using their GPS speedometer but I've got my old Defi BF gauges sitting around still so I'm on the fence. If I can find more of the BF gauges I'll stay with Defi.
My car is dead stock.... ish

Had a look at the speedhut gear, looks good and lots of options. Also plenty of kmh gauges which is nice if i decide to go a full set.

They seem to be comparable to vdo prices as well.

Thanks R34SR, that's excellent.
How easy was the wiring install?

All their sending units have extremely sturdy weatherproof connections...and if i remember correctly..the gauges can be daisy chained for easy installation. Speedo was nice with its gps connection not having to calibrate anything or worry about my j30 diff and wheels throwing off the speedo.

Yeah i love the idea if the gps speedo. Means wheel plus sizing doesn't need to be as accurate.

I would look into an AEM Tru Boost. Gauge and Boost Controller in one.

Thanks Supakat. Tru boost looks good. Not much help for a supercharged engine but I'll consider it if I swap this engine to turbo.
I've always liked the look of the Turbosmart E-boost 2.

I've always kept it simple and ordered all my gauges from Glowshift except for my widebands. I've been doing so for 5 years for myself and my budget customers and I can honestly say I have never had a problem.

Glowshift seems to be a brand that really divides people.
Its a love or hate thing perhaps based on peoples experience?
Good to hear you have had a good run with their products.

Always good to have a go to for the budget build.

I can't make up my mind if i just go for a boost gauge and matching tacho (only have factory fitted analogue clock) or go a full set of gauges. Obviously that makes it a much greater cost due to speedo and tacho prices.
