KA24DE HX35W Turbo

Post by fullmetalchemist »

What's up guys! I'm planning on swapping out my KA24E for a KA24DE engine and planning on going turbo on it. I'm contemplating on the Holset HX35W turbo but it's internally wastegated, and the turbo manifold I plan on getting for it is a top mount, but it has a port for an external wastegate? What would I do if I have the internal wastegate and the manifold has a external wastegate port. I'll post the components I plan on getting for my build below, I can't find any -12AN oil return lines. Any advice and input would be great!

Since your going on a budget route and you hopefully haven't purchase anything yet, I would say purchase a different turbo. Purchase a 50 - 57 trim turbo that's externally gated. Generally the "ebay" turbo's on about 7-10psi would last a good year until you start noticing a decent amount of smoke from the seals. (based off my experience) Not bad for $130 shipped for a quick budget build. -- If you want to save more cash on an internally gated turbo so you don't have to purchase a wastegate then buy a 38mm wastegate block off plate on ebay itself. That's the route I would take. I also know that diesel trucks stock runs more boost so I'm willing to bet that internal gate spring pressure is about 20psi. (IDK if you're stock internals or not)
Project - Aries 8.8.1, Crower pro series rods, Kelford 272, 11mm head studs, Five0 2150cc, Magnafuel-4303, PTE6466

Daily - 95 stock block, ARP's, bigger ring gaps etc, 57Trim/63A/R, 550cc, z32 Maf, 93 octane /110 octane maps.

if you want to use the hx35w (i went that route), you can weld the wastegate flap shut on the turbo then utilize an external wastegate. The internal gate isnt good for our application because it has bad opening characteristics and a high psi rate on it. You get much better control with external gate. Nothing wrong with that turbo though
