shift_down wrote:Also i think your right about the eBay thing. I mean somethings need to be reinforced, like the manifolds, but others are good. A turbo is a turbo, just don't abuse it, make sure you properly lube it and you will be ok. I don't believe all the b.s. about how eBay is so horrible. I mean they don't work good under extremes, but if you want a small setup then its fine.
thank you ha.. I might try to go low end name brand with the manifold because thats something I really don't want to get screwed on.

but yeah, a lot of ebay parts are like generic clothes. its gonna get the job done it just might not meet everyone's standards.
I'm a noob, my bad

For the super mega basic setup, why would you need the emanage AND the safc?!?!

It's one or the other. It doesn't make that clear. I remember reading this back in the day and I was confused why it listed to run a safc, msd btm, and reflashed ecu together. Haha

I have a 95 s14 and I want to hit the mid 300 range.

Stock motor.
ebay topmount mani(reinforced)
t3/t04e
nismo 740cc injectors
godspeed wastegate
z32 maf
greddy fmic kit
john wolf ecu
3in downpipe
APEXi Dual N1 Exhaust

Fuel Control

SAFC2 to control your fuel injectors, along with the stock ecu.
MSD BTM At this stage I would be running the BTM to control timing retard.
Reflashed ECU-This can be a DIY thing with Megasquirt Tuning or a JWT.
Wideband O2 Sensor should be installed for tuning.

Block Internals
This is where I would start to consider it necessary to replace you pistons.

Question is do I need all of these or will I be fine with just my Jim Wolf ECU?

Thank you for your speedy reply

More questions lol.
Wideband O2 sensor- which wideband do you recommend?
Clutch kit to hold around 350 hp - Would a white bunny setup work for this?
Oil pan bung - Are KA oil pans aluminum or steel?

Sorry for noobish questions, Ive never built a fuel injected car all my tuning previous to this has been with a screwdriver :)

aem uego or innovate mtx-l are cheap but good
WBunny should be good, but it seems to be pretty hit or miss with some people. if you do go WB i would get the Competietion Clutch package that THMotorsports selss.
steel.

I still don't understand how a z32 MAF will be able to read the amount of air going into the tb to compensate for boost since the MAF is pre turbo. would i need to run an fmu or boost ref fpr along with my JWT ECU to have the proper amount of fuel going to the injectors?

Like I said, I'm pure noob to the EFI game.

the MAF has no knowledge of boost. its simply a heated element that measures the required voltage to maintain that heat with air flow over it. the ecu uses this value, a bunch of other sensors and fancy calculations to determine "engine load" which is correlated to boost. if you were to look at the fuel or timing maps they are just rpm on the y axis and load on the x axis. the tuner determines which parts of the map they are in at which boost and adjusts the values accordingly. your stock fpr has a vac/boost reference. hopefully that makes sense.

White bunny will hold 400ftlb or more. Aem uego is a very popular wideband. I use innovate wideband.

hahah that actually helped a lot thanks!

I know I must be getting annoying but I have a 95, which is inspected as OBD1 but to my knowledge all S14s are wired OBD2 which is why there is a obd port under the passenger side of the dash.

Question is, my JWT ECU had "95 240SX MT TURBO" but someone changed the 5 to a 6. Would Jim have done this? or someone trying to get rid of a 95 ECU to somebody with a 96?(either way I don't care as long as it works) and does anyone know what 8.7CR is?

technically it is an OBD2 compliant ecu but used as obd1. in 96 the ecu changed again and the car gained a lot more emissions sensors. if im not mistaken, all 95-98s have the same style plug to the ECU so you should be good. 8.7 stands for 8.7:1 compression ratio. as in it was tuned for lower than stock (9.5:1) compression. in short the timing values should be a more agressive.. how many degrees more agressive you may want to ask him. given the nature of his tunes (safe) id be surprised if it would be a major issue but better to know whats going on than guess.

In theory, if I wanted to get a little bit closer to that compression ratio, wouldn't a larger 3mm copper Head Gasket lower my compression with out having to go with different pistons?

I mean in the end I would probably need to upgrade to stronger pistons and rods but for now it may get my closer.

By chance would you know how to contact him. His website freezes up every time I try to get on there.

you have 3 feed options.
1. ebay oil sandwich block $40
2. drill n tap the stock oil neck. BSPT to AN fitting $15
3. Tee off the OEM oil sender. not a huge fan of this. def get a steel Tee not brass if you do. these things have been known to crack and fail over time.

1. is pre filtered oil to turbo
2. is filtered oil to turbo
3. i dunno must be filtered

1.
simply goes between filter and block

2.

3.
the Tee goes in the open hole on above picture, sender on one side of the Tee, feed on the other

for drain, everyone goes right back into the pan. usually people go -10AN. if you have AC there is a very specific spot the bung goes. once your under there mocking it up you will see. im sure some have gone into the block, but its all the same.

About to get everything started one question though is, how much to retard timing, or what I should set timing at?

Depends on your tune. If chipped ecu, then set base to 20* unless specified differently. Do not use dizzy to retard timing for boost, let the ecu do this. When you retard dizzy, it makes the car run sluggish and not up to par.
