Thinking about getting out of 240 scene.

Post by boyce »

Well I am going to finish the ultimate 240sx website and might have a cheapo DD 240, but I want another project....
With a open-mind, please make some suggestions/flaming.

All these projects I tried to stay in the $5-8k range
Goals are something fun, daily driveable.

Lexus SC300 5spd 2jz w/single turbo add-on, suspension etc.
Toyota MR2 NA MK2 91-94 w/Solara v6 supercharged swap, suspension, etc.
Datsun 510 w/KA-T 5spd, subaru rearend, rollbar, suspension ,etc
Mazda Rx7 FC w/Ls1, t56 swap, suspension, etc
Cadillac Catera 97 or 98 w/LS1, t56 swap (holden commodore status bitches!)
Euro Ford Capri Mark3 70-77 w/302HO, T5 (NOT MUSTANG CAPRI! but mustang engine)
Toyota Corlla AE86 WAIT NO 80s piece of **** ugly overpriced overrated underpowered driftomatic POS

Think about it, the capri mk2, 2200lbs w/400rwhp worth of supercharged 302 and a 5spd omfg it would sound sooo good.... OH YEAH! plus nobody would know what it is!

I am leaning this direction, 3 reasons.
1 I have parts
2 it is cheap
3 there happens to be TWO ex-scca race 510s in good condition in someones lawn about 5 blocks from my house.

well personally i'd try to go with a datsun 240Z there are alot of different motor choices and almost anything will be cool wether you put a KA,SR,RB,CA, or whatever the stocker is or a 2z may even fit. i like the mk2 idea as well my friend has a '80 celica which is so cool but has a blown motor. he's thinking about some gay integra i just want him to put a 2j in the celica.
There are many paths to Enlightenment: but no one said they can't be taken sideways.

The Ford Hands down, then the 510 because of the closeness of two of them. Where the hell did you find that Ford anyway?

the best option: Straighten out your hypomania, refocus on your current project, and make it happen.

The LS1 FC sounds tight, the 510 you know is gonna be tits. I've been thinking about old muscle lately (like an el camino with a pumped 11:1 CR 350).

And NO.. NO AE86. You called it... its ugly, its a p.o.s., and the ends don't justify the means (drift does not make the car good enough to get in).

The lexus is out of your price range... but thats my top choice if you had, say 15k.

240z reminds me of coke dealers. They are cool, but it has been done over, and over and over.

The MK2 CAPRI is the ****!!!!! Light as a 510, looks better IMHO, It has always been one of those wierd random old cars I have liked, they came with small v6s... but swapping in a 302 would be cake. (then you could eat it, after having it)
Downsides, you would have to swap rear discs, and it has a uhmmm SOLID REAR axle/leaf springs :(

Hypomania you have to roll with. It helps facilitate car building, once a direction is established.(key is getting excited about 1 idea, not 5)
510 would be cool, FCs are techno machines from outerspace 80s style.
AE86 ***** a corolla.
Lexus SC300 could be had for 3k-5k w/turbo setup another 3k. so 6-8k total

Its a shame I don't think you could find a sunbeam for even close to 8 grand. The car is actually badass with just a hippy name. More Ford V8 style for ya.

I used to cut a lawn and the guy had a Tiger under a carport, no cover or anything. Never saw it on the road though. Pain in the ass backyard to cut too, lol.

Or if you get the sc, why don't you go sc400. They make a twin turbo kit for the 1uzfe. I don't think the corolla is a bad idea, you could always do the f20c swap, they sell the mounts for 700 bucks. A F20c can be had for a good price too.

If you like the ford Capri, check out the 1973 Ford Falcon XB-GT.

My vote would be for a SW20, but try a different engine. What about a Beam's 3S-GE?

Or how about a total blast from the old school past, the AW11 MR2. Easy power in those is either a 20v 4A-GE, or a GZE block with turbo poking out.

The 510 sounds like a neat idea too. Or the guy that suggested the early Z car, either way would be cool and so totally never go out of style.

I had both, but NA Mk2 would be awesome, beams 3s is spennnddy.
Yep mk1 w/20v I was almost there one time. Had everything to do it. :)
