What OS is everyone using?

Post by DEEPfrom1 »

Like the title says what operating system do you use and do you love it?

I primarily use Ubuntu10.10 on a SSD and also have Win7 on a regular hard drive.

Also a good one. Have you checked out Macbuntu? If you have any windows computers and would like them to run like osx. You can always run a clone on them!

I got my western digital 500gb for 50 shipped. I run my OS off a Solid Sate drive, its disgusting fast. Faster than my brain haha. Ubuntu 10.10 is so so so much better than the previous releases.

Phone is android 2.1 but will be 2.2 soon. Epic 4g.
Laptop is win 7 64bit home
Pc is windows vista 64 and windows 7 64 pro on searate partitions, running raid on dual drives for speed.
Media pc now has ubuntu 10.10, which rescued it from the slow decay of aging windows os performance.

Ubuntu has finally brought linux to the masses... back in the 6.04 and 7.04 days it was nice but required a few tweaks... but now its like butter, especially since nvidia pushed out real vid drivers.

lol windows 3.1 service pack 235078235?

SSDs sound like a lot of fun :D

Windows XP corp, but most likely going to dual boot and try vista again, and windows 7 eventually... maybe even linux, but even red hat is a lot to learn lol

Don't reinstall Vista, install Windows 7 instead. It performs better and is more stable. Linux is something to try if you haven't already. You might scratch your head a few times depending on the flavor you choose.

I should give 7 a shot, vista is probably just as bad as when i tried it a while ago. I have a decent system so it should be worth it. Are there lots of compatibility issues for the x64 variant like xp or is it better with 7?

Running 7 64 bit on the main desktops and laptops, I've been running 7 since beta, and I do like it - still has some "wtf microsoft" moments, but nothing frustrating like XP and Vista. Ubuntu on the media center.

I have yet to find a problem that Win 7 won't run that ran in XP. I'm pleased with it.

Commenting on 64bit compatibility....

Xp was the worst.
Vista was ok but somewhat dysfunctional
Win7 is pretty damn legit. Hard to find issues with compatibility.

Win7 actually outperforms Xp on system resources, too. Which means its actually better for your older machines that are still running XP. Vista was a waste of time and MS pushed it out just to make money I think.

If you're not doign PC gaming, ubuntu should be your primary choice imho.

XP Professional on my PC and
Windows 7 on my laptop.

I'd have to say Windows 7 is growing on me and I'm starting to like it better then XP

running on vista 32bit. Im waiting for this 2005 model Dell laptop to give up the ghost . I had to partition the harddrive early in 2011 because somehow XP pro sp2 got hosed and I couldnt get it back so I loaded a pirated version of vista (sons backup disc). I liked XP much better than I like vista but for now it does at least work.
