Thinking about getting a billet FCW for my KA..

Post by ALTKAT96 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 7:47 pm

Do you guys think that we can benefit from a crank shaft like this?
http://www.par-engineering.com/images/c ... nk4cyl.jpg

I'm not sure for what motor this one for but I've been talking to the rep for this comapany and he says that they can make one for the KA. I got a dog engagement gear set made for my FWD KA trans by PAR, thier machining quality is excellent .

What did they charge you for the gearset?

I ended up paying around 4k but I got 1-4 dog gears, 3-4 billet fork , cuff for the gear stacks which eliminates 5th gear and a 4.10 FD.

Brian Crower makes one with stock stroke (96mm) they dont have it listed on their website

I know there are a couple people here with them but I don't think their cars are running yet...

ABSOLUTELY YES. If they make it stock stroke, that would be REALLY nice to have available for the Ka market. Wow, explain to the guy first that the Ka community is a bunch of cheap asses but you might be able to get a group buy together, and see what number he throws at you for say.. 5 crank shafts.

Not really interested in Eagle products... Personal thing, seriously, they are fine but.. W/E.

I mean do you guys understand the difference between the Ka's crankshaft, and fully counterweighted crankshafts?

Thats freaken professionally machine knife edged to boot! Dude, quality. Telling you, its easy to spot. Whoever does that machine work is on point.

Cheapness is a problem with almost all Nissan guys not just with the KA guys.. lol
Gerard from PAR engineering told me that if there are at least 4 orders for a crank like this the price will drop dramatically and if there are more I guess it would be even better. He also asked me about the stroke and I told him standard is what I'm looking to get but longer strokes can be made.

I'm not knocking BC, I'm running his V3 cams but I heard that some of BC's parts were made in China.

Not interested in changing stroke, im not a mechanical engineer and i love the way the Ka makes power as it is. No reason at all to mess with changing stroke. In addition, when doing that you throw off your dampener and, to do things correctly you really should run a custom dampener at that point. Why mess with Nissan bottom end engineering so drastically, they did their math right from the factory.

Lol dont get me started on us and our pocket books. :)

I know this is a long shot, if we can get 4 orders the price will be $2,560 AUD.

KA-T'ers in general are very tight. The sr guys are the little rich pricks with money. I have in total spend a littl under 1700 for my turbo setup. Most sr guys wont get out that much for just the engine. And we are the OG DIY'ers DIY&KAT go together like PB&J

I think I just might bite the bullet and go on this alone, with the gearing, tire size and my goals I need to get more revs out of this motor safely. I'll be running a 4.10 final and a 26x10 slick .

what kind of RPM's do you need for your car based on the trap speed you are or will be running?

I'm hoping 8000-8500 rpm 150 mph+ if I can make the power I want to make.

8000-8300 rpms is not a problem whatsoever on the stock crank.

How about 9k with an ATI damper? I have been thinking of just trying the stock crank to see if it will take it. Don't you have a FCW in your motor?

Personally... I want one stroked out to 2.65L and with 11:1 compression ratio.... I'd run E85, a T3/T04E, and 25psi.

Who DOESN"T want this FCW crankshaft! Its just a matter of who can afford it, really. I bet you could at least tell the guy that if they can get the price down and do a run, a few dozen people would eventually buy them -- from there it just has to seem like a solid enough investment for them. Who knows... All I know is I wish i had a 240 to put one in, lol. You guys and your effin' 240s. Got me mad jealous right now.

Tell me!! Who the hell else here has humped a 48k miles ka24de+Turbo?
Image

Do it clean enough.

ready to own

.... In all of those pictures... Imagine I had .25 of a liter more from the FCW crank... You can get that with the 2.65L stroke AND I bet with a fresh valvetrain you can still do 7k pulls. +23psi = **** yeah. Everything in the pics look the same, but the car is now an animal on steroids.

do me.

I would like to see a UOA on an engine that spins that high. It would be cool to do a full day at the track at lower RPM, do a UOA, then do another track day on fresh oil at 10,500rpm and do a UOA on that setup.

Correct. Actually goes in between 10500 and 11000. Keep in mind, this car isn't driven daily. 6 Passes, fresh bearings, oil, filter change, plugs etc.

I remember when the 1st 1000hp+ dyno video was posted I asked what the motor was being revved to and Sctuned.com replied "Thats right. We are only taking this car to 7300rpms" . What's up with that?

Back then it did only rev that high. Much smaller turbocharger, much smaller tire.
