TPS High Voltage 1.4v closed
Just got my dad's KA-T running after a complete tear down, clean up. History of car, 89 SOHC Auto, converted to DOHC, 5 Speed, 550cc/N62, 2871 running a Nismotronic ECU. Pretty much everything seems to be running fine, except at idle his TPS voltage is way to high, 1.4ish volts. I know it should be .5v and I've already tried adjusting it back and forth but I can only go down to 1 volt and up to 2.5volts. I've tried unpluging it while the car is running and the TPS voltage goes up to 5 volts, plug it back in reads the 1.4.
He took the entire throttle body apart and cleaned it up, Is there anyway something could have got screwed up? Can I somehow re calibrate this throttle body or should I just grab another, be careful cleaning it up and put it on?
Thanks,
Jesse
Edit, I did a fair amount of searching and didn't come up with much.

possibly bad tps. have you tried another one out? is it a stock tb?
as for the voltage going to 5v when unplugged, thats normal. the temp sensor does the same thing when unplugged also.

Stock TPS, and I havent been able to try another TPS yet. That will be my next step.
Good to know about the voltage.

Could be. There are two plugs on an auto TPS. One is for the trans, one is for the signal to the ecu. They are interchangable, if I remember correctly.
Or, its a bad TPS.

I'll look to see if it's plugged in backwards. If not, looks like I'll be trying a new TPS out. Or just swap throttle bodys.

as far as this is concerned, my car started out as an A/T and has been M/T swapped. there is definitely two plugs on my tps. should i replace it with a single plug M/T unit?adamky wrote:project-c2 wrote:I know there are 2 different TP sensors for auto and manual, maybe that is the cause?

Well the car started out as SOHC auto, but the DOHC came manual so I think mine should be fine in that aspect.

Well, the TPS portion of both sensors is exactly the same. The Auto one has a separate plug that sends a signal to the trans controller. As long as you're TPS is reading normal, I wouldn't worry about it.proconcept23 wrote:as far as this is concerned, my car started out as an A/T and has been M/T swapped. there is definitely two plugs on my tps. should i replace it with a single plug M/T unit?adamky wrote:project-c2 wrote:I know there are 2 different TP sensors for auto and manual, maybe that is the cause?

Update, ended up putting a different throttle body on... all is well now.
Not sure what we did when we had it apart to clean everything up, but somehow we messed something up.

Did you soak in in carb clean? If you didnt take the TPS off you might have filled the whole sensor up.jholman05 wrote:Update, ended up putting a different throttle body on... all is well now.

It may have gotten wet, but it would have had plenty of time to dry out (months). My dad cleaned it forever ago and he isn't even really sure what he did.
