I wouldn't ditch the KA for an RB personally. Too many expensive oiling issues. I get the LS thing, but its such a cop out.

I was going to do CTS-V brakes up front, but after talking to someone in the industry they recommended against that and buying a kit that was designed with correct piston bore and caliper sizing for 240's. I'm unsure how much smoke they blew up my bumbum, but it makes since. "Sure, it stops a 4,500LB car just fine...its gonna make your 2500LB car do an endo (exaggerated).

Yeah they're overkill for my camaro, I cant imagine running them on a car that weighs over 1000 lbs less and with no ABS.

*sneezes* - brakes lock up.😂

The z32 fronts do pretty well. Z32 all around will be fine paired with the 1" bore BMC and z33 brembo rotors for heat dissipation if the NACA ducts need something to blow on. There are some really nice kits out there with wilwood 6 potvcalipers appropriately sized to run 17's. If I hit the lotto I'd probably invest in one of those and drop the car down a little to gain a better center of gravity.

As for the engine. RB and LS aside, if my KA lets go around 500hp and I want to maintain that more reliably... I feel like the answer here is displacement. I kind of drool over high revving I-6s, oiling problems or otherwise.

I've gotten accustomed to them, modulation is key...but I do want to proportion them properly eventually. And the looks alone were with it for me.

I splurged....bought the id1050x injectors, ATI damper , s257 .78 twin scroll like yours, full race manifold and everything arrived just in time for my arrival in FL....been working on the new downpipe and intercooler piping for this setup. My biggest issue right now is I'm nervous about how far to push the boost based on the fact that 6 yrs back when I built the motor no one really knew that the headstuds/ washers were an issue that needed more than just ARP studs to keep the head on tight. No way I'm removing the engine and head to re do bigger studs right now....I'm guessing sub 500whp and keep it under 22 is psi.....what's your plan in this department? Seems like a waste of money on this manifold and turbo to not push 30 psi 😂

very nice! I'm not going to push 30 #. 400 on pump and 500 on E85 is all I want. It's plenty fun at that level. E85 is efficient enough I should be able to pull off my 500hp goal near same boost levels I'm on but i'm going to be running out of injector around there. Even at the 50# base pressure I'm at. I upgraded to a radium railmount FPR the other weekend and I'm seeing quite a change in fueling demands at the same base pressure over that ISR piece of junk I had. I pulled the trigger when I last did a boost leak test and couldn't figure out where one of my leaks was coming from... only to identify that the top of that FPR was leaking air like a sieve through the adjustment screw. Leaking was an understatement.

Image

I'll be cleaning up my bay soon. I need to redo the harness now I've got it finalized. I bought a new S14 lower intake manifold I'm going to go through and clean up, then I'll pull my harness and tuck it under the intake and shorten/remove all the wiring that runs in and around the IM while I'm at it, since I'm only using the IACV at this point. less leaks. Less wires. win/win.

I should have mentioned I always use boostane/VP octanium for a minimum of 100 octane. I've proven that stuff works really well gained 3 degrees of timing everywhere for 60 wtq...havent seen anyone else here push an ISR t28 to 380lbft. My car sits for long periods of time so I don't think e85 is for me right now...also I'd probably have to upgrade the fuel lines and pump to handle the added demand of e85. Funny about your fpr, had the same one...figured out it was dead while hitting 85% duty cycle on 750cc injectors and only making 320whp....it failed to increase pressure with boost. Now I strictly buy aussie products when I can, turbo smart and GFB. I noticed my harness definitely need a refresher now after fiddling with it to change out the injector connectors....might just buy a new one from wiring specialties and modify it.....keep me posted with your build....our setups are so similar I'm sure we can learn from each other....oh also how much timing were you pushing up top when you broke 400whp?

That's what I ended up with, scaled to 25 psi. It's conservative out of boost and I'm good with that. I am starting to see some of the limitations of the MS2 as it ages, helping my buddy tune his MS3 based Miata. It's incredible what a difference being able to adjust VE values to the tenth as opposed to whole number makes on how smooth the engine runs. Even without the extra table resolution factored in. I'm considering upgrading to either MS3 in the future and just redoing the harness then, or switching to a different PNP platform like Link or something similar. Don't get me wrong, I like my MS2 but it's getting a little long in the tooth.

DIYpnp is currently having a supply issue for the S14 ECU plugs too so... now'd be a good time to sell it on the market since a lot of people dont want to buy S13DIY + Patch harness. At $509 for the MS3 + $83 for the harness I'm beginning to think I could break even at the very worst and maybe even come out ahead with some added features.

You might want to enable table switching to gain better resolution , especially for timing control...my entire first 12x12 table is for NA tuning....my second 12x12 table scales in 2 psi increments to 24psi. It's makes tuning simpler for me when I'm throwing together a quick table and reducing timing 1 degree per psi to get started out.....my biggest fault with megasquirt right now is lack of safety for such an expensive build....no ability to cut fuel or timing based on programmable lean conditions, overheat protections, oil pressure protections etc....that's all I want is more safety protection features.....I will probably go haltech in the future to get the features I want.

The table resolution is fine; it's the ability to adjust the individual cells in MS3 to the tenth that makes the fueling so much smoother IMHO. I get what you're saying and, yeah, I could basically have a 12x24 ign and 16x32 fuel table but This works for what it is now and, for the same reason I'm not doing meth/water injection, I try to pare down the additional things that can go wrong (like what if something happened and didn't trigger a table switch, etc...) MS is still largely homebrew and there have been a few releases that have caused some unexpected gremlins. It's more paranoia than anything but I tend to take the K.I.S.S. approach.

I completely share your concern about the safety features. I was looking at Haltech Elite 750 myself. That'd be way down the road. I'm currently looking at picking up another S14 in the near future with a few extra cylinders so my money's getting set aside for that. I lost my powersteering/water pump belt the other weekend and the only thing I have going for me is a coolant based rev-limiter. The sudden loss of my ability to rev past 3k is what caught my attention and got me off to the side of the road in enough time to save the head from warping (coolant temp crested 240F before I caught it. Everything seems to be fine, I got it out last weekend after fixing the issue but still. My buddy's Link ECU on his RB30 build is chock full of safety features and he's got oil, fuel pressure, temperature based timing retards, rev limiters, and engine shutoff triggers built in. Much better peace of mine.)

I've ran this since day one with my 240....saved me plenty of times ,.programmable functions and blaring alarms to get your attention the minute there's an issue....quality is excellent....changed out one mil spec oil pressure sensor in almost 10 yrs!....I'm the same with meth...I used to use it for safety and lowering IATs in sweltering summers...never pushed more timing with it because I was always afraid of failure to spray......I've seen the link stuff and like them , but I like haltech and its history now with adaptronic.....depending on how this new setup runs...I can see myself doing a custom harness and haltech ecu in a year or so.

That's a nice piece. I'm running a CANbus gauge on my setup. I need to hook up a speaker and actually program in some alarms aside from boost and oil pressure and quit being lazy. I've added oil pressure and temperature, and I set up a single alarm for oil pressure. I need to do coolant temp and set up something for knock.

For some reason after installing the radium rail my base pressure went to 60psi....hit 75% duty cycle on id1050x because fuel pressure probably hit 80psi! And my pump was not happy.....really wish I had a haltech with fuel pressure sensors.

I'm using a turbo smart FPR 800.....no, I had no idea the new rail would require me to readjust my base pressure. But I did now... I'm going to go for a short drive now to see if I've fixed the issue but I think my fuel pump might still be the main cause for high duty cycles.

So let me start by saying sorry for completely messing up your dyno thread 😅, so much yapping in here and no dyno sheets!

Anyways I decided to go take her for a spin and see if I was able to fix the duty cycle issue....I had fixed 2 boost leaks and adjusted the fpr. So I was feeling good....first odd thing was all my dash lights were dead...I have a custom cluster so I figured loose connection or the lighting inverter took a ****. Then a kid who was appreciating the car at a light told me my rear left taillight was out....I checked it...blown bulb..interesting. I swap the bulb and continue to find my tuning road. Did a few logs...still hitting up 70% duty cycle at 14ish psi..... Running rich low 11s even high 10s but I didn't even hit that high of a duty cycle on my 750 side feeds for this power level ( I always start rich and slowly pull fuel till I get my 11.5s). Then suddenly my voltage gauge starts alarming...and I see voltages just fluctuating from 15s to 16s! My car normally sits between 13.8 and 14.4 depending on load. I decide to drive home before the high voltages damages something else....I leave for work in cali on Sunday....feels like I haven't accomplished **** with this car. Any thoughts on what could suddenly cause high voltages? I can't remember but does the alternator on these cars have an internal voltage regulator?

Oh and to keep this thread official....here's tonight's 14 psi pull

Hey you're fine man. As long as it isn't one of those ad-bots that keeps infesting our board I don't give a darn.

Nice numbers! good AFRs there. Yeah, the alternator has an internal V/R I believe. That's really weird. Could have a bad alternator? I upgraded mine to a Nissan Quest unit because of all the electronics I'm running. She hums pretty consistent between 14.6 on startup down to 14.1. I've also got a trunk mounted battery. If you go the Nissan quest route, I'd invest in a different tensioner FIRST. I tried to make my stock tensioner work and it caused the pulley to be out of alignment, taking out my PS/coolant pump belt when it went.

couple of threads on it;
https://zilvia.net/f/showthread.php?t=86999

http://www.infamousnissan.com/forum/arc ... -5837.html
^The links work, just have to manually copy/pasta them into the browser. I did the 125A variant and ordered it from Rock Auto

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074S ... UTF8&psc=1
^Using that for my tensioner. Apparently a 2.5" alternator tensioner for LS motors is pretty universal. I replaced one of the 2 bolts that holds the OEM tensioner bracket (the lower of the two I believe? I can grab pics if you need.) with all-thread and cut it to the correct length, then used a washer, lock washer and bolt to attach the new tensioner. Works like a charm.

Image

the alternator heim-joint got straightened and locked in after I took that pic. Oh! I'm also running the pulley that came on the alternator. The belt is thinner than the pulley but the grooves align properly with the belt/pulley and the crank.

One last thing, you'll want to run a SLIGHTLY larger belt for the alternator. The stock one will fit but you'll have to tension it manually with a bar before you can even get the tensioner attached. Effective length for the OEM belt is 30.5" and the Dayco part # is 5040305. I would upgrade to a 31" belt at least. thankfully, like NGK plugs, you can decypher the length by the last 3 digits of the belt code. So a 31" belt is part # 5040310. (Only works w/ Dayco, I'm sure you can do something similar with other mfr's.)

https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/day ... /3290017-P

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007X ... UTF8&psc=1
For reference, this is the alternator I'm running. There are a few variations on the different years of Quest ranging from 100A to 125A. I only shaved off the tensioner mount and redrilled the bolt hole on the bottom. Let me know if you want any other info on it. It's a little tight down there but it fits.

Lol thanks man I appreciate the info, but I went with the 110 amp quest alternator about 10 years back....just ordered another on Rock Auto for $75. Lucky for me all I ever had to do was grind off some material from the alternator , modify stock tensioner and I think I needed a shorter belt! Was shockingly simple and lasted a long ass time, iirc I mainly did it back when I had AC, amp, electric fans and HID's.....voltage would take a noticeable dip with all those running....no longer with the quest setup.

Well I'm flying out tomorrow....so won't be working on her again for a few months 🤦‍♂️

Keep the updates coming on your end.

Will do. best of luck. If we ever thaw from this freeze I'll be on to finishing my brakes and then working 70+ hour weeks for a couple of months, then 50/50 shot on whether I'll wind up with a second S14. I may not be making much more progress than you for a while. But when I do... ;)
