KA24DE - Precision 6031e - 7psi

Post by TryingToTurbo »

Hey guys.

Got a baseline dyno of my turbo setup today. Wasn't too impressed, but I can only blame myself as my tune isn't quite optimized yet.

Setup:
Built KADE (9.0:1 Compression)
AMS Turbo Manifold
Precision 6031e (7-8psi)
TiAL BOV and 44mm WG
Z32 MAF
650cc DW Injectors
NIStune Type 4
240/232 Cams (Suck)
Competition Clutch 6 Puck Whitebunny
1 PC Alum DS
J30 Diff

Something has to be wrong. My tiny t28 put up better numbers than that. Dyno read low?

Tanner said your car put out more power than that and i believe him. Tune really safe or something?

I think it's a combination of both. My tune is conservative still. Needed a good 4th gear log and this was the first time I was able to get one so I have a basis to tune more aggressively from. Also I think the dyno was reading low. A lot of guys were unhappy with their numbers yesterday. For example my dad has an 04 Porsche C4S with mods that he put on the dyno and it made 255hp which is just ridiculous. It's factory rated 320hp and has claimed 50hp in mods....I know that's not anything amazing but still a 120hp loss from flywheels to all four wheels? I doubt it.

I agree, my t28 at 10psi made 210/270 on a different dyno, so this setup making similar numbers isnt that believable to me either. The way I look at it is it was a good 4th gear pull for a log and at least a hp/tq curve printout. Another thing to consider here is my turbo may be just out of its efficiency range at 7psi where a t28 is in its prime at 10psi.

I plan to up the boost over the course of the next week and get my tune dialed in. Then I'll strap it back on and get some better numbers I hope.

238whp at 7psi is not bad at all. An I/H/E ka would probably put down around 140whp, you added 100whp with 7psi, which is a respectable 14whp/psi gain.

I do think your torque is dropping off too fast though. I would get a 248 exhaust cam asap.

Yea that 232 is killing you for top end. It gives you a fat gain right around spool up/full boost though.

Those numbers look good to me. All you need to do is get your cams straight and there will be decent gains. At least swap the 232 and the 240, otherwise you will have that big torque bump early on.

Werd, if i still had the extra set of s13 cams, then id send them to you for helping me out.

Its very rare but i've seen dyno's read low like that. Should see if you can use that vitual dyno thing and see what the results are there.

Was thinking that was too low of boost for that turbo, up that ****!

For reference, my t28 put down 270whp/wtq at 11psi.

If you change the cams and set that turbo to 11 psi you will definitely see better numbers than that t28 put out. Even just setting it to 11psi now with a good tune should likely yield you better numbers than that t28.

Well I have a set of 272s lol but not the rest of the valve train yet to put them in.

I'm going to pick up a hallman mbc today now that the clutch is broken in. Cranking it up to 12psi this week, and doing some more tuning.

I'll post results next time I'm on the dyno.

Thanks for the input guys!

Definitely going to feel a major difference if you push it to 15 psi or so. 7 psi is probably out of its efficiency zone. It will start moving some serious air when push 20 psi. It has a 59mm comp wheel and a 57mm exhaust wheel and is rated at 590hp. I think its a great turbo for the ka. I want to see what it does at 15 psi and up though.

yeah i was gonna say the same thing. when i was at 14psi on a gt2876r it felt great (340whp great) but at 18 psi it felt fudging amazing. never dyno'd on 18psi but butt dyno said it was very close to 400.

thats about on par for that size turbo and that low of boost ... I put down just at 240 on 6 psi on an old school turbonetic t4 60-1 ... on a very mild tune ... woke up at 15 though to 20 .. mine was tooa stock s14 motor w stock cams ..

Like 3600. I'm at 15psi now and need to get it dynoed. I was seeing knock with 13 degrees of timing so I need to pull some before I get it dynoed again. I'm hoping for like 360whp or so.
