Setup:
Stock 95 KA (160k)
GTiR turbo
DIYPNP
10ish psi
93 octane
STi 503cc injectors
Very safe timing
Obviously running way too rich here. The AFR in the graph is lean by .5 to 1 vs actual AFR. Still trying to figure it out.
[/b]
EDIT: I wanted to add that this is obviously not accurate. I am going to get some more logs this weekend to compare. I will post them up after.

Went out and did some tuning,I ended up starting over on my tune i wasnt happy with the way it was responding.I have a comparison of my last run vs the new run 9psi.All new tuning was done same day same temperature (85*-90*).I tuned to 12 psi and have a comparison between the 9psi and 12 psi same day.The graphs have how much boost and timing beside each line color.(had some tools in the car so i guessed on the extra weight i was just looking in power gains not actual numbers)
-9 Psi Comparison-old(night)65* air vs new(day) didnt mess with the up top ill never be at 9 psi so i wont come close to that part of the map.
-12 Psi all runs together-
-12 Psi starting at 16*to20*-
-12 Psi starting at 20*to23*-
-12 Psi 24*&25* up top (timing drops a degree from like 5200 rpm to 6000 rpm)-
-9 Psi vs 12 psi-
There was a dip on the 25* up top map i looked at log and it fell to 24* around that dip but it is fixed now.i need to try 1 more degree up top to see how it responds i had to stop because traffic started coming.I really like the fact that i can see changes in the power between various timing.Im pleased with the way the car is pulling and cant wait to do some more tuning and turn the boost up a little more.

huh interesting how you dropped from 18* to 20*, made same pawer on 18* and 22* but gained again at 23" wish i had some E85, with 93 i woulda been holdin my horses at 20* even if i was on the dyno

I hope your on e85 if your guessing at the timing with that amount of timing? My cams aren't degreed unfortunately,I got jwt's a while ago cause they have always seemed better drop in than the Bc cams. One day I'll degree them maybe when I get on a real dyno.Niclas_AB wrote:Nice! I'm at 25* at 12psi and 27* at max rpm with a very simular setup execpt for a larger turbo Shouldn't be to far of then. I have just guessed my timing map so far, no dyno yet.....
Oh, by the way, how are your cams degreed?

I dropped some hp but gained torque from 18* to20*. I think on some of those logs the timing may have dropped a degree for a second since the ecu averages the 4 cells it reads from.. I use to run 18* at 12psi on 93 pump. E85 is great and I feel confident with the timing I'm at now using VD.since I was still making power and people are running close to my timing at way higher boost levels. I think I'm gonna get it pretty close to mbt with this then fine tune with a real dyno eventually.sdaigle240 wrote:huh interesting how you dropped from 18* to 20*, made same pawer on 18* and 22* but gained again at 23" wish. i had some E85, with 93 i woulda been holdin my horses at 20* even if i was on the dyno

doh! i looked right over that tq increase. i need to put my big boy pants on, im still on ~15-16* on 12psi 93 oct. just started digging into the user guide, will be sharing results hopefully sooner rather then later!
you could always add ign timing to the graph right? you would at least be able to spot a the dip and the rpm it occurs. that would be just plain cool anyway to be able to spot your timing anywhere in the rpm band. this would make stuff like tuning for spool able to be quantified, neato.

VD is really easy to use once you figure out the short cuts in excel.looking forward to seeing your results to,if you need any help let me know.sdaigle240 wrote:doh! i looked right over that tq increase. i need to put my big boy pants on, im still on ~15-16* on 12psi 93 oct. just started digging into the user guide, will be sharing results hopefully sooner rather then later!

you can't add timing in vd but you can open up the log and it will show you the timing at every recorded rpm, then you go to timing map and change it to get the number you want. If you haven't seen a log in excel. I can try to send you one of mine so you can see the format its in and how it relates on the hp/tq from dyno.

Well I went out and did a next day comparison pull to my last dyno there pretty close,I had a bit more weight (few more tools and about 7 more gallons of e85) so my weight isnt 100% but i did the comparison run then i added a little more timing in a few lower load areas where i saw timing dropping in the log and here are the results.
picture has my 9psi run(red),12psi run(blue) back to back and my 12psi run(green) to new 12 psi run(yellow) back to back.

finally tried this out today awesome tool!!!
this was one 16psi pull I did today, the other log I took had wheelspin. I will definatley be taking full advantage of this program from now on. im a lil disappointed with the numbers but they seem about standard for my setup I was exceptionally happy with how long the cams held power as you can see I let off before the rev limiter but didn't see drop off until around 6500r woot!
my setup is
gt35r
1000cc id's
248/248 cams degreed
xcessive mani
megasquirt diypnp
ls2 coils
any input?

18ish psi (AEM TRU Boost EBC)
timing/fuel: see graph, hit 9 at peak tp
data after 6200 is dirty and deleted, elevation started changing,
Note this is not 16x16 i only included certain TP columns.
so many interesting things to be deduced from these graphs. funny thing is b4 all this i guessed i make 360tq. peak locations also match mo hish's real dyno of an hy at 16psi.

I forgot about this thread, glad to see you started using vd its very useful,I wish I had something to post again maybe in a few months I'll be back on the road.
You running 91 or 93 octane,Is 9* the most you've tried on 18psi?what are your boost/ tp break points for your timing map?is it holding 18psi til redline,I know the load drops in the upper rpm I just don't remember mine dropping that much or fast but it has been a year since I did any serious tuning.

Re: Virtual Dyno Results
Just started playing around with VirtualDyno..
My tune is super conservative right now, but here are the specs.
Stock Rebuild KA24de (unknown miles)

Re:
nice to see this back in action.
93 octane. that is the most timing ive ran. id be surprised if theirs even another 3* to squeeze out on the dyno. I have full boost b4 3500, i hated that EBC and since got rid of it. my boost would fluctuate an unacceptable amount - possibly part of the TP drop. that map trace is also a little deceptive... the VD graph stops at 6200, yet the excel table is highlighted to 7500. so in reality it only dropped to about the 80 column, a 10 TP drop from peak tq, which sounds pretty normal.

I got a log the other night when I was running and came up with this. I don't think I am that high but at least 500whp. I may be running out of fuel. I developed a small exhaust leak around the manifold. I fixed that but haven't had a chance to make a pull. I am hoping it was causing me to lean out on the wideband.

Re: Virtual Dyno Results
Here's a couple mostly stock pulls. The first ones I actually logged, was just trying to get Virtual Dyno to work correctly. The Third gear pull i had a small hill to go up near the end - I need to find a good long flat stretch of smooth road that I can do 90 on. Smooth roads are hard to find around here.
S14 KA24DE W/S13 Head.
Stock Compression
Stock injectors
no tune, stock ECU.
Turboholics 264/264 Cams installed but not degreed.
All installed in 1987 Nissan 200SX XE. weight is pretty close to correct, but I had problems finding the Cd and frontal area. I used .38 and 18.73 sq ft (given the only info I could find after a quick search). This may or may not be correct. Really just going to be used for comparison purposes with tuning my new NismotronicSA and turbo setup (he351, 740CC on stock block - plan to run 10-12psi and hopefully break 300 WHP).
Looking at the graph, I could stand to degree my cams. I also need to get my WBo2 installed (was waiting on the Nismotronic) so that I can log AFR as well. I plan on running similar base line logs with the NismotronicSA and a base map to see if there are any changes (maybe this weekend).

91 octane
TD06 20G
15 psi external wastegate
9:1 weiscon piston
Stock head
BKR7E gapped @ .028
45psi fuel pressure
I'm wondering why my pull went the way it did. I think I only touched 10 to 11 psi. Knock light went off and logs show it went lean. I did another pull right after that and I didn't show the lean spikes. Timing is extremely safe until I get my fueling squared away.
Maybe this might of been the culprit

Re: Virtual Dyno Results
Back at it again. I've grown tired of the super conservative timing map so I decided to redo it.
9:1 C/R
Turboholic cams
Precision 5431 turbo (.63 housing)
15PSI @ 18*
Walbro 255lph
Modified Z32TT injectors (~740CC?)
Red = Conservative timing (14* @ 15psi) on 93..... 237hp/273tq
Blue = New timing (18* @ 15psi) on 93 .............. Gained 53hp/36tq on timing alone.
Yellow = New timing (18* @ 15psi on e85............ Gained 43hp/44tq on change to ethanol.
It's incredible the gains I made with just a timing change and ethanol with no read tuning. I believe my intake air temps are robbing me of a bit of power (maxed at 140* on 93 octane, 120* on ethanol) as the intercooler is high-mounted right against the radiator.
I'm currently out of fuel on this setup. I have the Walboro 455lph Ethanol pump, Radium fuel rail/dmr and ID1300 injectors ready to go in after this coming weekend's drift event. I plan on tuning for ~400hp and leaving it alone. Plans to move to a 5858 and rally type anti-lag next season

Re: Virtual Dyno Results
Good data...keep it up...Did you increase timing after MBT as well? As rpm's increase, volumetric efficiency decreases and you can increase timing to keep cylinder pressures up for better power.

Re: Virtual Dyno Results
After I install the new fuel setup I'm going to put it on a dyno. My goal is to tune for MBT on an inertia dyno as I cant find a load capable dyno close. There's some area that I'm going to work on before that tho. My graph on E85 shows a healthy valley that matches with the ignition map. I'm going to try and bring that out before I get to the dyno.supakat wrote:Good data...keep it up...Did you increase timing after MBT as well? I'm real excited to see what kind of power I will get out of timing. Right now I'm on a moderate timing map for 93 octane (while using e85).. I believe there's quite a bit more power left at this boost level.
Re: Virtual Dyno Results
You gained that much power switching to ethanol with no increase in timing?

Re: Virtual Dyno Results
Yes... Maybe? Here was my procedure.adamky wrote:You gained that much power switching to ethanol with no increase in timing?
Make 3 passes at current ignition map on 93 octane.. Choose average pass.
Burn new ignition table.. Make 3 passes 93 octane... Choose average pass.
Drain fuel (~5 gallons) and fill with ~5 gallons of ethanol.
Make 3 passes... Choose average pass.
I did not change timing between the 2nd and 3rd pass.
There was approximately 4* drop in temperature in the 3 hours I was testing. The only other factor would be weight of ethanol vs. gas and intake air temps. I did see a ~18* drop in IAT from the median run on ethanol.. I ran all passes with the same passenger.. We did have a few chilli dogs in between graphs 2 and 3.
I've attached my 3 logs.

Re: Virtual Dyno Results
I'm not familiar with MS or Tunerstudio, but I downloaded it (and Mega Log Viewer) and looked at the moderate 93 and E85 maps. Am I right that total timing was around 19* through both runs in full boost? I know you said 18* so maybe I'm looking at it wrong.
