S14 internal coil distirbutor wiring for microsquirt/ms3?

Post by bridged »

I have searched and many topics with good info had pics and stuff illustrated as deadlinks. Searched here, zhybrids, 240sxforums, etc. The question is found many places for s13 dizzy due to msd upgrades, but hardily no info on the stock s14 95+ internal coil dizzy. Does anyone have a diagram or illustration they like to share? Rest of the wiring is straight forward as always.

This is the only time i've had an issue figuring out wiring up a MS system. Mostly due to not really knowing what the 2 plugs do when not coupled with a oe ecu on the s14s. Most info I found about wiring the s14 were either old ms1 tech using gm relays or /extra boards, or was advertised wrong. I have cop z33 coils and a sr cas if it comes to that, but i rather keep this simple as its a simple build nothing crazy. Things i dont know is what 12v switched needs the 1k resistor(my guess would be the one with the oe resistor but not 100%) and what the other pinouts go to, has theres 8 pinouts.
This is what i have, but not sure if correct...
pin#
1 ign1 input (micro)1
2 ground
3 ref- (micro)
4 ref+ (micro) optio+
5 12v switched
6 ground

7 12v switched
8 ign output (micro)

Thanks in advance.

I found the diagrams you need in the '97 S14 FSM EC (ECCS) manual under the descriptions for trouble shooting DTC P1320 for the ignition signal and DTC P0340 for cam position sensor.

Your pin numbers are correct and connect as follows:
dist# -> destination
1 -> ecu pin #1
2 -> ground
3 -> ecu pin #40
4 -> ecu pin #41
5 -> eccs relay (pin #3) power
6 -> ground
7 -> ignition switch (pin #3) power
8 -> through resistor to ecu pin #2
