So the motor is mostly together now. Some of the latest stuff I've done (resistor box) was a bit rushed, trying to get ready for a race this weekend. Going to dyno on Thursday. Tomorrow gotta get the inner and outer fenders reattached, wire in the fuel pump relay, and the Crane CD box (dang that sucker's big!).

Here's where it is tonight. Have a 4" 45 degree bend to get the filter down and away from the hot stuff I need to put in too. And hey, for the first time since I've owned the car, it doesn't leak anything! :D

 Wow

That manifold and downpipe look funny. Like they've been cropped out of a picture.

I love your engine bay. How about some pics of the car?

Well, managed to get the car ready today. Have 10 gallons of Motorsport 109, and 5 gallons of C16 at the ready.

I couldn't believe what a HUGE difference the fuel pump relay trick made for my Walbro. Maybe my stock wiring was weak or something, but it completely changed the sound of my pump when the key is first turned.

Everybody keep your fingers crossed my motor doesn't blow up tomorrow!!! :D

How many pounds of boost are you planning on running Jason?

Do you have any more pictures of the car sitting on the CCW's? Also, what's the offset on the rear? and the specs on the front ones? I can't stop drooling over that pic.

Cory, I plan on running 20-21 pounds eventually, since that should put me in the sweet spot of the 3071R. I figure that'll be safe on 109, maybe with some C16 thrown in on hot days.

I'll get some pics of the big tires on the car tomorrow, haven't put them back on the car yet. I hope they fit under the flares!

Today's trip to the dyno was interesting. In removing the HICAS, I plugged the pump's output for the rear lines, which turned out to be a no-no, as the pressure blew fluid out past the seals as soon as we got into some part-throttle tuning. We ended up pulling the pump off and dissecting out the vanes that provide output to the rear rack's channel. Bingo, problem solved, just a big mess and a bunch of wasted time, so we didn't have a chance to complete the tuning - that, and the spark plugs I was using (Iridiums, stupid me, putting NGK coppers in tomorrow) didn't like 15 pounds past about 5500, even with the Crane Hi-6 and PS92 coil.

The 14lb. runs went fine though. For the record, here's the setup for this dyno:
Stock internal S13 KA24DE, rebuilt and overbored .020" with OE pistons, ~1000 miles since rebuild
Full-Race divided inlet tubular manifold, T3 flanged
Garrett GT3071R divided inlet, .78 A/R
TiAl 44mm wastegate, 2" pipe to open dump
Spearco ice water/air intercooler
eXcessive Motorsports intake manifold
AEM EMS tuned by Shawn Church
AMS fuel kit (84. lb. injectors, Mitsu resistor pack, AMS fuel rail, Walbro 255)
Full 3" exhaust
mix of 100/109 (will probably run 109 most of the time just to be safe)
Image

Perhaps most interesting, was the very first run before much tuning was done. I wired a switch to cut power to the wastegate solenoid - I thought at first it would have the system run off just the wastegate spring (.5 bar, for rain days or whatever), so we ran with it off. Unfortunately it did the opposite. The run was aborted at 3600rpm, where boost had risen to 19psi, and torque was already, um, very high.... The next trip to the dyno should be interesting...

I want more pics of the wheels!! Just out of curiosity. What timing were you running up top on that boost level? Just wondering how aggresive he tuned it, im guessing a good deal since your on that high of octane. Nice numbers.
It's always broken.

Strange that your car didn't like the iridiums.. My car loves them..

FYI Jason, I ran 100 octane up to 24psi. I wouldn't recommend it at or past 24psi, but for the 20psi you plan on running, I think it would work great.

The main reason I run it is because of its specific gravity. It is identical to pump gas in that respect. Also, considering MON is usually lower than what AKI is, the sunoco GT being at 95MON is probably at least 5 points higher than pump. So, considering 15psi has been proven safe on pump gas, 100 octane should definitely cover 20psi.

I'd at least give it a shot and just log knock/knock correction. 100 octane is available at the pump at some sunoco stations..

Congrats on the numbers..!!

I bet switching that switch on the actuator held air in the top of your wastegate holding it shut....

i love the ccw's. the car looks awesome. i understand you are trying to save weight where possible but why only one hood latch and not both sides? i could just see the passenger side flying up mid-run.

The hood uses the stock latch also. The extra pins are really just to hold it down at the corners so it looks better. That I haven't gotten to the pass. side pin should be indication of how much I've been thrashing to get everything else done... :)

The good news is that I FINALLY got the PS pump I need today, so I should be set for this weekend. ASSuming nothing else goes terribly wrong...

If Im converting correctly you wheels are 18x11 (+12offset) and 18x12.5 (+44offset)

What kind of dampers are you running? How did you get the wheels to not the the dampers, especially in the front.

I have to run spacers on the front at the moment, about 20mm worth, so it's effectively a +32. The rear has about 20mm worth also, but the interference is with the chassis, not the spring. I had to notch my rear lower control arms to make them fit.

I have some issues with the AEM EMS, I'll research them a bit, then post up later if I can't figure out the solution.

well if you have a 20mm spacer on a +12 offset whee, then it becomes a -18mm offset; not a +32. And I assume you were hitting the LCA during cornering? You could always space it out a little more? How much did you 'notch' the LCA?

Ahh yes, you're right about the offset, but it's only a -8 then though.

It's the rear LCA that interferes, and it interferes at all times, but moreso when the suspension is in the bump part of its travel. One of the goals in building a big-tired autocross car is to keep the rear of the car as narrow as possible, so I keep moving the wheels inboard till they hit stuff I'm not allowed to modify, like the unibody. :)

Video of a test run late today. Not a good example of driving as the course was dirty and the tires were cold. I hope to get some better stuff tomorrow.

Youtube really made this one look yucky, the 25MB one I uploaded looked great...
