hersheskuirt's build(issue with idle 9-12-13)

Post by hersheskuirt »

The story starts on Dec. 5, 2006 when I joined the site. After I found this site I instantley fell in love with the idea of having a ka-t powered s13. I went down to a salvage yard just ten days later, and picked up an s14 ka. The build is still not finished and I still have a bunch of things to get. The eingine is completely built with forged internals and a fully built head. All I need now are the most important things, all of my turbo stuff and other misc. things. This is the first engine I have ever built and it is actually my first car I have ever owned. And I wanted to do it right the first time so I don't have to do pull it out and do it all over. My goal for the car is to make around 450 whp and maybe close to the same torque. Now on with the list.

Engine
-Eagle H-beam rods
-Arais pistons
-ARP head/main studs
-Clevite bearings
-BC V2 cams
-BC dual valve springs/retainers/seats
-BC valves
-Head and block completley machined
-Fel-pro gaskets
-Head ported and polished
-NGK BKR7E spark plugs
-OEM oil pump
-OEM timing chains/tensioners
-all emissions removed

Fuel
-SS Braided line
-75lb Low Z injectors
-Fuel pressure gauge
-Mitsubishi risitor pack
-Fuel Lab regulator
-Walbro 255lph fuel pump

Things to get (AKA Christmas List)
-Full Race turbo kit
-Gauges
-Wideband
-Ebay FMIC/Piping
-EFI Specialist ECU
-Z32 or Q45 MAF

I am sure that there are more things to get or things that I have gotten and just can't remember. I will add more things as I get them and keep the thread updated with as much as I can. Tell me what you think, and what I might want to rethink of doing.

the full race twin scroll kit is pricey, but you can make some real nice numbers with it. If your going for like 400-450whp, you might want to think about a GT30 and that manifold on the front page on ka-t.org (scroll to the bottom). It will be quite cheaper and give you the power your looking for.

I know it's a pricy set up, but I am looking for the most efficient turbo and manifold I can get. I looked at that manifold on the front page and I do think that it is an awesome looking manifold, but I think that the full race manifold will be the better choice for me.

I got the cams before I knew much about them. Before I got them I did some research but not as much as I should have. After I got them in I found lots of negative things about them. So insted of just selling them I thought that I all ready have them and lets see what I can get out of them. And I do plan on getting the adjustable gear so I can get more power out of them. Once I get the car going and I see what kind of power I am making I am going to get another cam like JWT or PDM cam to compare the difference.

Thanks, I know some people that have unsprung clutchs and they drive the car every day. They just say that there is a trick to drive with them and make it smooth it will just take practice to know how to use it and not look like it is your first time driving the car.

That and the unsprung clutches are very hard on the drivetrain if you do any sort of hard shifting or quick clutch movements.

Well I got my intake manifold back from my brothers shop. He was removing and cleaning most of the casting marks on it. I thoght it would be a good idea to put my fuel rail and injectors on since I had nothing else to do. Now that my computer is operating correctly I can now post pictures of what I did.

Thanks, it looks good but I would like it better if it where a mirror finish if all possible. But I am to lazy to slave away at it any longer then what my brother and I have invested in it. After I get every thing put together and running, then I might have to see what it will cost to get every thing chrome platted(intake mani, valve cover, front timing chain cover, and anything else I can think of). If it's not that much then I think I will have to do it. I think that it would look really nice and clean.

Well it has been awhile since I have done an up date on the build. I have purchased a couple new things since I last posted. I bought a trans and 1 peice drive shaft from a member on this site, KA24ETZTM is his name. Then after getting the trans and drive shaft I got 90% of my turbo stuff, from another member on the site, GREASER. I don't have all the specs on the turbo right now. I lost the paper I wrote everything on. But I do know that it is a t4 with a stage 5 turbin. Everything is laid out the way it would be set up in the car.

That's what I like to hear. Since you do have the same turbo, about what RPM are you at when you hit full boost.

That's about what I thought it would be at. Yeah I can't wait to hit 500WHP!

The manifold is a custom piece from MRD in Virginia. They made it for their shop car and made 600whp with the turbo setup. My power goals where around 350-400whp but things have changed and now I am looking for about 800-900whp possibliy. :crossfingers: Na just kidding I am looking for 450-500whp. I CAN'T WAIT!

I like the polished look your gonna go for, should look great when it's all finished after a good wire tuck. Nice build!! I'm hoping to start buying parts once again for mine soon.

I need to do something with the valve cover. I have had it several different colors and polished. I just can't make up my mind, so what do you guys think that I should do with it. Oh yeah one more thing I am in need of a MAF, maybe a Z32 or something equivalent.

Oh yeah, I found some pictures of what car the turbo stuff came from.
